I have been referencing this chart a bit in some conversations on the main battle form. I had been just entering in examples one at a time, but figured I'd make a nice quick reference for anyone interested.
100 Damage icons represents the approximate quantity of 2 Gods + a God Scroll 200 Defense Icons represents 2 100% full blockers.
Basically what I was trying to show was - at what point do diminishing returns start to hit. Is 122 Damage per turn worth 1K HP or 256 Potential blocked icons per turn? I don't know the answer to that question, but for those of you faced with that question at least you have the numbers to help you decide :P
Based on what we know so far, I think my final build would be:
13-15K HP 8K STR 8K DEF 4-6K SPD
Obviously depending on how/if speed gets changed. (If speed doesn't change, then it would probably be: 17K/9K/9K/0 :P)
[edit] If anyone knows how to make that picture bigger let me know and i'll fix it, or else just drag it to its own window and it should be easier to read.

There won't be a perfect build for everything.
You also need to take in account that some opponents boost their stats at different rates or generate annoying weapons that necessitate defeating them early before they become problematic to deal with. Strength will help more than defense if your pet can survive long enough. For example: Meatslab boosts strength extremely rapidly. Prodigy generates quarks that full block and freeze. The castle boosts fairly rapidly and generates lots of Reinvigorating Incantations that heal 5000hp each.
In any case, regardless of whatever build you choose, they have their own uniqueness. I hope you enjoy the experience that the build brings, and both the challenges and opportunities of it.

Just saying, this is the math behind how much damage you can probably expect to gain/lose for each parameter. Not particularily advocating for one build over another.
If I only wanted to show one way to do it, I wouldn't have posted the rest of the numbers :P

Defense is very good stat because under the best conditions because the weapons block more and the DPI is higher the attack. I believe those conditions exist for the Paramnesia Buttwing and Recycle Beast. I certainly like defense. The more the better :)
If it weren't for many factors that necessitate other stats, defense would be the ideal stat to boost. Like I mentioned, many opponents boosts and generates items. Also, have to have enough str to hit through opponent's healing. In addition, sometimes you don't know if the weapon will block anything at all if a different icon type gets flung at you.
The table shows that strength diminishes quickly beyond 7000 though. Defense diminishes less simply because of more defense icons from the weapons.
Defense is also only divided by 4, instead of by 4.2, so having more icons available isn't the only reason Defense looks better.
Parmesian Buttwing won't max out a 13/8/8/6 god weapons on a regular basis on the first win, but it will very quickly after the first. I didn't bother to check Recycle beast, I assume he does even more damage.
I'm not sure thats true about defense being the best stat to boost though. There are a lot of scenarios where you do not max out your god weapons every turn, and on those turns, those stats are wasted. I would probably agree that I would consider doing something like 13/7/9/6 before I did something like 13/9/7/6

was posted somewhere i think.
Hard to completely say as well. Currently as you said 8k defense is more than enough for most opponents (at least for the first few wins for the toughest challengers), but I anticipate they will put tougher challengers near the Paramnesia level, and probably release more godlike weapons with multiple split defense icons like the Skelly Staff. Then you might be able to make use of all the defense block.
I noticed the 4 v.s 4.2 difference as well. I think it's not a big difference. At 10k str vs 10k def the difference only about 1.2 per icon. Multiply that by 100 to 200 icons and it's only about a couple hundred. I think the difference should be more if defense icons of the weapons are still much lower than the attack icons.
I think its easier to revamp shields/lesser dual duties to give much higher numbers than it is to recode the defense formula, which would end up putting god weapons off the charts powerful.

Yeah, adjusting the defense stats of the weapons is also a better way if they can be bothered to.
I know that we like to find out which build is better in general, but having no clear answer could be beneficial because it allows us to experiment with different builds. Also, it allows every stat to count or trade off toward something. Everyone ending up with the same build, in my opinion is uninteresting.
Speed is still a big question mark. I've been holding off boosting until there some conclusive result about it that makes sense.
