I can not be the only one bothered by loses right? 201 battles, 1 loss?
I propose that having reached a certain tier or number of wins against that opponent, you are able to re-battle for that loss.
Say when I was starting out I battled the Buttwing Bomber 9 times and lost on the 10th, after having fought (and won) another 10 times I could challenge him/her/them/it for the honour of that loss, winning would remove the loss and count as a success. or Having reached tier [x] I would then be able to challenge any opponent under that tier (e.g. all Very Easy opponents) to this.
Personally I prefer the first one.
The honour-fight could either be just a normal battle, or a supped up one (penalties? No spells and only one-two weapons? the opponent is buffed?). I like the idea of the honour-battle having something different about it just to spice things up.
[li]it should be earned, just trying to start an honour battle without your pet growing/winning a certain number of times results in the opponent turning you away. [li]the only prize is that that loss is removed from your total, no EXP, no items. [li]encourages continued input with the promise of REVENGE [li]as far as I'm aware Neopets doesn't have this -- something different :D Kieth likes that right? ;P [li]increased lore/interactivity with the site and it's NPCs with your pets
[edit] Maybe have the list of what opponents you can challenge this way be accessible through Reischen? He seems the most likely to be in communication with both pets and opponents.
I like where you're coming from with lore and stuff, but I mean, we kind of got this in a way with the upgraded Buttwing Bomber and whoever else for Tier 13 pets to try out. And in general I don't agree with removing losses. I mean, I don't think it's considered honorable to remove your past. What's honorable is overcoming your past, learning from your losses, and using that experience to defeat the enemies that once taunted you as if they were unbeatable Gods. If you have a problem with the scars of loss plaguing your body and mind, then I suggest you fight cautiously and hesitantly, waiting until you are more than overpowered to take down your enemies, so nothing poses a challenge.
So basically no. :/ It's entirely possible to go without losses if you just overtrain before fighting people outside of BQs if they are that much of a bother to you. I don't mind the losses count, especially after a boss fight when my losses jump up 1K or when I'm fighting an opponent I can barely beat and I'm racking up losses as I try for that 1 in 20 chance to beat the opponent.

Those losses are your battle scars. :P

I like the concept, but I'm wondering about the major boss battles at the end of most plots, where the expectation is if you battle it, you're going to lose on purpose - it's more of a collective effort to bring the boss down. How would eliminating losses work in this case? Or does one just choose not to participate in such a battle?
Considering the BAs have to fight tooth and nail to get even basic updates to the BC, I think the likelihood of anything this complicated ever happening is pretty low. And even aside from that, it just seems unnecessary.
All depends on the losses really... sometimes losses just can't be helped... but they happen. It seems like a really neat idea but all in all a loss is a loss. You can make up for said loss by trying again and seeing if you're successful the second time around.
There's no reason to be ashamed of a loss.
Honestly, now that I think about it, I don't even understand why we have a counter for losses and ties anyway. It doesn't really add to anything in the game except for being another statistic. I'd rather not see them at all than to have to feel dishonored in some way that I failed to win at a battle in a game, then have to turn around and try to regain that honor.
Finally winning after losing to a challenger multiple times feels a million times better than just one shooting everything
I love a challenger that will make me lose. Everything else is just.. two weapons and a scroll. boring

A revenge battle will never erase the fact that you lost in the first place.
I really, really hate to lose battles (I will feel guilty every time a pet faints and no amount of saying "they're just pixels!" will make me feel otherwise) but I'm kind of happy they're there just as an aid to keep track of things. It doesn't come in handy very often, but if I'm iffy on whether or not a pet (or a friend's pet) can beat an opponent, it helps to see if this pet, who's that tier, has already won or lost against them. It also helped a little before the reset. Instead just assuming that I stopped battling at 8 wins, I could see that I won 8 and then got my ass handed to me on the other 8 tries. XD;
But haha god ditto that we really don't see enough updates to the battle system for me to ever expect something like this (it took how many years for speed to matter?) so I think we'll probably have to go on feeling like that tenth win is what erases the disappointment of losing. I do wish they'd bring back some kind of special prize again for the 10th win though- maybe not double loot again but some kind of general bueno-you-did-it item.
I don't really see a reason for this, it's only a lose, it's a part of the journey to the win..
Couldn't have put it any better. Given the overall state of the site, I'm going to throw another vote against this. Subeta has enough of a priorities problem as it is.
what happens if you lose the second time?
Your battle pet is destroyed and gets its stats reset to 0
can't lose if you just never battle 'nomsayin
