It seems rather random if I get a "Have a xyz coloured pet" achievement. I zap one of my pets at the moment but the achievement is given only after a day or so or not at all. I don't know if it is a bug in the achievements system or the pets system.

At the moment I have an Experiment pet but no achievement yet.

I did refresh the pet's profile and the pets page and the achievements page several times, by the way.

Are you referring to the "Experiment : Is it looking at me?!" achievement?

There are only achievements for the different colors like blacklight, chibi or dusk. You can see them under the pet tab of the achievements. So it's normal that you don't get an achievement for having a certain experiment^^

Hm.. I just searched for those achievements and they really aren't clear at all. Maybe they wanted to make achievements for the experiment pets but stopped when they decided to release more? But I really have no idea xD

Those are legacy achievements, i.e. achievements from the old system that are no longer attainable like the retired achievements.
