Hi all artists of subeta (and elsewhere)!

My roommate is getting me into drawing on the computer and I'm trying to find my own tablet to purchase. I've never used anything before but she told me to look into Wacom Bamboo. I found a few refurbished ones online...

If you have any suggestions of (better?) brands or where to buy, I'd appreciate any information! Thanks :]

Wacom's a solid brand, I've had three of their tablets and always really liked them, they feel nice and are durable. My first is ~10 years old, still works last I checked, it was just tiny & outdated enough to justify replacement. 2nd had infrequent issues after a few years and my current was on sale, so I gave in. But overall, very sturdy!

The Bamboos are great, and easy to find used/refurb. If you'd prefer a new one though, the Bamboo was basically renamed the Intuos Pen - link. Of those I think I'd go for the Pen & Touch, since the Pen-only one doesn't seem to have an eraser (I use the eraser a ton, but some people don't. If you haven't already, see if you can try out your rommmate's and see how you like it.) The touch function's not a huge deal - I don't use it while drawing, just once in a while for internet browsing. Some electronics stores have them in stock, if you'd rather buy in-person than online.

There's also Monoprice - link - which are very affordable. I don't have personal experience with their tablets (just some headphones, can't really compare the two) but they're pretty popular. From reviews I've seen, sometimes there are problems with installation & drivers, but it's kinda hit-or-miss, lots of people seem to have great experiences with them. Their biggest has a slightly bigger drawing area than a medium Wacom, the pen runs on batteries & doesn't have an eraser.

You can't really go too wrong either way, it just comes down to personal preference. I'd suggest taking a look at some reviews, check out a few different models of each brand. Whichever one seems best for you, go for it and have fun! :)

Awesome, thank you! I'll definitely take a look at the new ones, but I think having very little drawing experience (even not on a computer) and no computer drawing experience, I'll probably take a refurbished one just for learning and getting into things.

I've asked a few of my friends who work on digital art and they all mentioned bamboo... leads me to at least know that that brand is okay.

I really appreciate all of the advice though! Thanks :3

[edit] P.S. I love your HA!

No problem, happy I could help! A refurbished one is definitely a good choice for just starting out, getting used to it and stuff. There always seem to be a bunch of Bamboos around, too, so it should be pretty easy to find one you like (wikipedia has a list of model numbers and specs here that might be of some use, too) Best of luck! :D

Thank you! We kinda match, what with the horns and weaponry, haha. Lookin' sharp!

Thanks for all the links, I'll check that out too for some good models.

XD My friend actually said she was sending me a random item (the lagmonster costume) and told me I had to make a legitimate outfit out of it, so that's what happened. Yours is much more put together! :D
