I was reading Keith's topic about Deceased Users accounts not being cleared and mentioned about having a living will so that items are not left rotting away on the account.
I would really like to see this implemented as Some people might want certain things to go to special friends I know I certainly would like for example All my CW's to go to my friends as well as the rest of my items and sp
I would love to see something like this put in place. I have many weapons ect that should be passed on to my friends should the worst happen. Please consider this.
Our Lair is proof you don't have to stand face to face to know you've got friends who stand with you when you need us.
Mni wiconi -- water is life
This is a very good idea, as long as it's kept behind the scenes (not something people can see).
I think this is something that should be left to individual users.
Making a list like this and making sure that family or local IRL friends (that do not have a Subeta account) seems like it would be a much easier solution.
This seems like it could get messy fast.
I have to agree with . This really isn't something Subeta can, or should be responsible for.
hi yes just popping in to say that this is a thing i support-
perhaps instead of having it be based on specific items, it can just be set so that all items on the account go to one person or something. or even have it so that all items on the account are transferred into a raffle system that can be entered daily, like the potion lottery. or maybe even have them all go into a big pile that disseminates between users active within the last 30 days for christmas. idk.
just something simple, so that the items aren't sitting stagnant on the account. that was my original intent behind suggesting a 'living will' feature in the memorialization thread, because i don't know much about coding and really have no idea how feasible something like a real life living will would be.
While I can understand the thought process behind this to an extent, I think that overall it's far too morbid for a virtual pet site. Wills are extremely important legal documents that are handled by lawyers and used to distribute real-life items of value/significance to friends and family after someone has died. Pixel items mass generated by a computer that are indistinguishable from each other and have never actually interacted with the owner in real life are just not special enough to require users to fill out a form preparing for their own deaths.
This is something I've actually thought about more or less because I'm weird.
I really don't feel like this should entirely be up to staff in the sense that it could potentially be very time consuming (like, for example I have 350 CWs and 45 pets... what if I had 100 friends I wanted my pets/CWs given to? That'd take a while, contacting them all and making sure they want the items/pets, have room for said pets, are still active, etc) not to mention.. there's room for dishonesty.
Having a living will fixated on subeta could easily go down a dark path, even if it's paved with good intentions. Like you know your friend took time off from the site but that she did her living will and you get a ton of stuff... and come to find out she talked shit about you to someone else--- well, considering how people have burned the houses down (or attempted murder+) on people who've unfriended them on facebook I can't really believe that people wouldn't spitefully claim a friend to have passed for personal gain. Especially when this was a change that was supposed to be to memorialize passed friends and family.
That said, what I WOULD want to see happen is staff honor legal last wills brought to them by their attorney-- I don't know if they would or not, I've thought about this before but never felt the need to make a ticket about it because I dunno.. it seems grim. I would like to see them honor wills and what your last wishes were-- such as she wished for her friend (legal name/username) to have access to her account to disperse her belongings and pets to friends (it would be nice if this were doable, and said friend would have access to the account for a few weeks and then it would be locked down), or a list of users you'd like to have things, or even please donate all of my pets and items.
Again I've never made a ticket about this so I don't know if this is already something they'd honor or not, but if not then I'd like to see this happen and made note of somewhere. Because lol I've spent a shameful (no regrets) amount of money on subeta already and in another 50+ years if subeta is still alive and kicking gods know how much I'll have stockpiled... it'd be a shame to let it rot.
I don't know about everyone else, but if I asked my family/friends to pass out my pixels for me on my death bed/in my will... I don't think they would take that very well.. Like, is that really something they are going to find important enough to throw on them when they're grieving? I dunno, maybe my RL people just aren't the type/understanding, or maybe I underestimate them, but I feel like that is just not something I would ever put on them. I might remind them I have a lot of friends here that need to know I'm gone and ask them to deliver that message, but not dole out my stuff.
I think it would be nice for all my shinies to be sent out to my besties here if I kicked it, but I wouldn't want staff to have to take that on for all of us. It would be far less messy to have a ticket or something in place saying if I die my friend here should be given all my stuff to pass out (or given my password to log on and do it) I've smailed them the instructions for where things go. (Minus what the HA is wearing now or saved outfit X for it to wear forever.) Of course there is room for dishonesty, but that is life. Hopefully your isn't a jackass.
Pets would be a little trickier because of slot space, but then maybe they should actually stay. When you go visit an old friend's profile, the pets are a part of who that person was here. If they leave the account, they can change form, color, profile, story... soon they're a completely different pet. :( Though I spose that should be up to each person anyway. :/
I think it says a lot about this community that this sort of issue even comes up. I'm not worrying about where my neopets/yoville/xbox marketplace gear/etc. is going after death. But the friends I've made here actually mean something to me in a RL sense so I care. <3 Odd. ^_^
That being said, I'm pleasantly surprised staff brought in the memorial status at all, and am doubtful they'll want to get in any deeper than that. At least for now.
When you die then your account should be closed and all the pretties should be deleted. The End. Amen.
Lovely thought, impossible request. It would take forever for staff to go through an account giving things away. The dyeing person, while they're still well enough, should be the one giving their own items beforehand. If they don't, all items should be put into either the Pawn or DC so that users can either get them for a discounted price or for free. Staff just doesn't have time to play "Executor of a Subeta Account and Its Items" along with everything else that constantly needs doing on here.
If items do get put into the DC or Pawn, it would be nice if an approximate ball-park time was given so that users are aware.
I still feel that the items shouldn't go to waste, though.

I really think you missed the entire point of the suggestion. It's not about letting a bunch of people profit off the death of someone, or preventing stuff from "going to waste."
The purpose was for there to be a way to ensure meaningful items made it to certain people.
Thank you All I want is for my items to go to my friends on here not for them to go to waste on my account or go to strangers.
I am fighting cancer and I know that it will be a battle I will lose eventually one day.All i would like is for all my items to go to my friends and say there was a special person to do this and Subeta would allow it let the staff know about this person before the account gets marked Deceased and no one can get into it.
I have absolutely no idea how this could happen without making it a huge burden for staff, and I do agree with that I wouldn't ask for friends/family who don't play the site to learn how to use it just in case it was ever needed. Not only they would likely forget about it quickly, but I wouldn't want to make them sort things here a job I don't even want to do myself haha... that just sounds like overkill. However, I do agree most people would love if their familiars passed the message on different internet platforms just so their other friends will know about it.
In the spirit of that assumption, if the deceased status could be reliably determined (especially if a family member told others on Facebook or wherever else), then what Subeta could have is maybe a small list of site users that are allowed to access that person's account and do stuff.
So, in short, the person would open a ticket to get a record of 1-3 other Subeta users attached to their account. Should the deceased flag ever get reliably set by staff, the person would be allowed to access that account (during a given timeframe) if they're still active; otherwise it goes to user , or, at last, user .
Idk, at least makes more sense to me to ask that from friends who DO play the site than to people who never saw it and wouldn't care for it... but it is still extra work for staff, even if they aren't the ones distributing stuff. I'd like to think there's less room for dishonesty if staff is responsible for applying the flag or not (in case of doubt, it'd be a no), but eh. It's not a foolproof system.
I really would not feel comfortable knowing that Subeta was officially giving out account access, no matter the circumstances.
I actually feel pretty weird about the "deceased" flag to begin with, but that's another issue entirely.

That actually doesn't happen in any circumstance, really, that everything is deleted, unless you're frozen for a long time? If someone stops playing under circumstances besides death, their account just goes inactive and all the items stay there.
You're often very inconsiderate, and I'm not sure if it's intentional, or if you're just not aware? Just fyi :)
If items do get put into the DC or Pawn, it would be nice if an approximate ball-park time was given so that users are aware.

This, pretty much. Assuming that they should go in the DC or pawn shop is the grossest thing I have ever read.
