My old Sewing thread is too old to bump, so thought I'd make a new one. I own and operate two businesses where everything I sell, I have sewn. My main business is rockabilly/pin-up themed and I am hoping to eventually make dresses etc rather than smaller accessories.
If you sew, what inspires you? My friend is having a baby so all of a sudden I am wanting to sew a lot of 'cute' things xD
I sew and have been making Kindle and tablet covers they sell pretty well on line and I can make them plain or get funky/creative with them. I have sewn for small companies in the past but would rather sew when I feel like it and not be on a schedule. Do you have any one helping you or are you on your own?
Oh nice! I was thinking about sewing matching iPad mini cases for my friend and I but I haven't had the time. Sounds awesome :). Definitely agree with sewing when you feel like it, I find that important or I lose my 'feel' for it. It's just me :). I pin, cut, pin, sew, finish up all my items :D.
i sew! only for a craft for myself, but i do have an etsy shop, i have recently made a backdrop to take better photos of my clothes that i would like to sell. i have also realized i sell accessories better than clothes. i tend to be inspired/sew a lot of pretty dresses. i have tons of them now, and get lots of complements when i wear them out and about my city. i really want to make my own patterns to print on fabric, and i'm almost done working out the kinks to that. i always get really excited when i see sewing boards in this area.
Oooo nice! I've made children's dresses, but I want to upgrade my sewing machine, get an overlocker and a larger cutting table before I make adult's dresses :).
Patterns are fun to make :) Good luck with that!
Yeah, I have been into crafts my whole life! Used to do a lot of different ones with my Grandma, she passed away a couple of months back so I've only just got back into it all.
getting back into something after not doing it for a while is incredibly fun! I upgraded my sewing machine for christmas (my boyfriend got me an incredible deal on a great machine) I technically don't have a cutting table at all, I cut on the carpet, which I've learned to like because the carpet can hold the fabric really well. The cons are that I can't lay my scissors down to cut, at all. I also plan on getting a serger once my etsy shop takes off (ahh hopefully)
I cut on my ironing board hahaha. I haven't done any sewing for awhile now due to an injury, and I am starting to lose interest again :(. Hopefully I can trawl pinterest and find something inspirational. Ooo Etsy shop, cool! How's that going? I tried Etsy and it didn't work for me, so I built a website. But I am in New Zealand, hence why I think Etsy wasn't right for me. I do LOVE buying off there though :D.
gah pinterest inspires me so so so much its nuts! i'm doing meh on etsy, i dont have a facebook and i just found out the more facebook likes you have on your business page the higher up on the etsy shop search lists you appear. :/ little broken, or too dependent on facebook if you ask me, but i digress! i hope you get better soon and find inspiration! whats your website? i loove looking at what other people create here on subeta
Ah I get inspired by a lot of things! Mostly fancy things though, show me some victorian or steampunk equese stuff and I'm in love. I want to use that inspo to make things like clothing and accessories but I'm so worried about sizing I haven't yet :<

I enjoy quilting, I haven't quite gotten the hang of sewing clothes. But quilting is so fun to me! It's been a while since my last piece. I don't have as much room in my new apartment as I've had in the past.
I usually make the quilts as gifts so I'm inspired by what the person likes. The last quilt I made was Star Wars themed. I used long strips of blue and green fabric to mimic light sabers each with their own handle. That was a really fun to design and make! :)

that's really ironic! i make clothes but am dying to understand more about quilting :) do you have any photos of previous quilts you have made?
I do have some pictures, I'll try to post them later tonight!

This is the first full size quilt I made. It use it everyday on my bed! It's a pretty basic pattern, but it was perfect for a beginner. http://imgur.com/WTxWCrJ
This is the Star Wars quilt I mentioned. You can kinda see the lightsaber inspiration I had in mind. I wish I had a better picture that shows the full quilt, but I can't find one! http://imgur.com/Bs5Y5M2

oh my gosh, so stinking cool! i can see the green part of the light saber, and i totally forgot you have to sew on top to get everything to lay together, double the fun. i found a few cool beginner quilting projects on pinterest im excited to try out, at least i think theyre beginner ones, theyre fairly simple as in not a lot of small cutting, which i find a lot more quilts cooler that way to me.
I'm so glad you like them! Quilting is very therapeutic for me. I'm also super weird and like ironing, so it's a perfect fit! :P
I wish you the very best on your future quilting endeavors! You should post your progress!
PS, your Etsy shop is so cute, I love the headbands!

i like ironing, once the air turns on in the apt and its cool enough for me to stand being upstairs! i am about to have a bunch of new scarves done, not very exciting sewing wise, but they're crafted well so im proud of them. i will def let you know when i post them, half the work is taking pictures. please keep me updated as well (and often) of all the fun exciting things you make, i know how hard it is sometimes to find other people just as interested in it.
It's www.looksewgood.co.nz :D. And I'm on Facebook too.. www.facebook.com/looksewgood I go through stock quite fast so don't have much on there plus have been on a 8 month hiatus haha.
your website looks awesome! your pictures are also really great! you still have tons of product even for a 8 month hiatus, lol :) i also look through pinterest for inspiration, thats ironic :P your avatar looks just like your shop, too. i'd check out your facebook one, but i dont have facebook, so i cant access most of the stuff anyways.
Aw thanks! I love Pinterest...so many free sewing patterns, I always change them up to make my own, but it's great to have a starting point. I want to save up and get a nicer sewing machine because I have my mind set on a project I want to do...using this pattern http://www.simplicity.com/p-11725-misses-vintage-1950s-bra-tops.aspx !
I love pin up, alternative, tattoo etc :D
