A long time ago, an old acquaintance played a game I remember terrifying me when I was really little. But now I am much older, and I read Creepypastas and horror stories, so now I'm wondering if the game really was as scary as I remember it being. I've only seen him play it once, so my memories of it are fuzzy at best. I tried looking it up on Google, but since I never knew the name of the game, I could never find it. But here is what I remember about the game:
I believe it was a horror game for the Sega Genesis
It may have also been an RPG, but I'm not 100% sure about that
Before the game start, you had to form a party by selecting from a group of characters
One of these characters was a robot
The game took place in a labyrinth which you navigated through a first person view
There was always a rumbling and/or growling sound in the background
When a character died, you heard their scream and their portrait was replaced with a picture of a skeleton, even if that character happened to be a robot
The game over screen had a creepy image of blood, organs, and a bouncing eye ball, which I remembered was the thing that terrified me the most about the game.

I talked with my cousin about the game recently and she seemed to know what I was talking about, but could not remember the name either. So now I turn to the Subeta forums. Does anyone remember a game like this?

I love roaming through Google to see if I can find games people are looking for, and I've been looking for any titles that'd match your description. I've found a few that only partially match what you're seeking, but none of them have a game over screen like that. Do you remember if the game had some sort of battle system, or did it involve shooting in first person?

Unfortunately I don't really remember much about the game itself, so it is possible I may have unintentionally made certain facts up. There might have been a battle system; I don't remember any shooting. What were some of the games you were thinking of? Thanks for helping me with this btw! :3

It may have been on another system. I remember my acquaintance playing Sonic 2 before playing the game I'm thinking of, so I assumed it was for the Genesis. The death screen from MissionForce are super creepy, the sound effect even startled me! XD I think the game was more medieval (besides the robot) because of the labyrinth. Does this help you in your search?

Yeah, it's pretty creepy! :D I've been looking for exploration games with medieval themes in it, and these are some of the ones I've found so far:

Shining in the Darkness - Regular first-person dungeon roaming with a sword-wielding protagonist Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun - Dungeon crawling in both first-person and third-person view Phantasy Star series.. The third Phantasy Star has a robot companion.

Shining in the Darkness seems closer to what I'm thinking of, though I think the game used darker colors. I think I remember the robot being yellow if that helps any. XD

I checked through every Genesis game article on Wikipedia's list, and the ones closest to your description were:

Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday Master of Monsters Gain Ground

I'll have to google the games that didn't have their own articles

Hmm, this is making me very curious. No wonder I'm having a hard time finding the game! XD If nothing comes up, maybe try looking into other consoles? Maybe the game was originally on a different console but was later ported to the Genesis?

I'll try to look what game could've had a game over screen like that, and I'll also check out if there's a good list of bootleg games for Sega Genesis, sometimes the bootleg games can be pretty messed up in content.

Really? I didn't know about the bootleg games. If the game was a bootleg, that would explain why it seems so hard to find! XD

I'm going to take a shot in the dark since it sounds disturbingly similar to the Grimrock games (newer) and say maybe Eye of the Beholder, but there is no skull from death. I suggest checking out the Dungeon Master game series. Maybe even Wizardry.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately I don't think any of these games are it. Eye of the Beholder and Dungeon Master seem to be closer to what I remember the game being though! This game is really hard to find it seems... XD

The only Genesis titles I can think of off the top of my head feel more like two different games. The Immortal was gruesome and navigating a dungeon in a fantasy setting, but it's kinda top down and you only play as one wizard. Then there's Zero Tolerance, which was first person and you had to pick people at the start, but it was sci-fi and also had shooting.

This is gonna bug me.

Gain Ground is another that sounds vaguely like it, but it probably isn't.

please send me any/all and so I can keep them safe

Sorry for the super late reply, but thank you so much for your contradictions. Zero Tolerance looks a lot like the game, but I don't think that is the one, unless I'm missing something. Are there any other games that look like Zero Tolerance that you know about?

The same company behind Zero Tolerance also made a game called Waxworks which was also known for its gruesome game over screens. It doesn't fit a lot of what you described and it was only for the Amiga, but again, it's a first person maze game on an older console.

Are you sure it was the Genesis and/or the Mega Drive? The library for it is pretty limited and nothing I find or recall under gore and first-person mazes seems to fit.

I assumed it was for the Genesis since before this game I saw Sonic 2. It is possible that my old acquaintance plugged in a different console to play this game. Are there any gory games from that time era you may know about?
