As of about 20 minutes ago, the top half of my laptop is wanting to separate. It's like one of the hinges is too hard to rotate, so instead the front part (that surrounds the screen) wants to bend instead and it's trying to come apart from the metal back/top. There's not a screw there, not that I can see anyway, so I don't know why it's doing this.
I would love a reccommendation for a better brand, though. This is my second Toshiba and also the second one I've had to super glue together. My first one held up really well even though I had to keep the power cord connected at all times (and eventually super glue it in a certain position so the computer would turn on) but I've had so many problems with this one that I will not be buying another one.
[edit] I got to the screw on that corner and it didn't do a damn thing.
A lot of my geekier friends swear by Lenovo, especially the ThinkPad series they inherited from IBM, those things seem to last forever.
Between my fiancé and myself, we've had a couple Sony laptops that lasted for yeeeears (his went 2006-2011, mine 2008-present and would probably run great if I reinstalled the os). I don't really know what Sony has been up to lately as far as laptops though.
I do think ultimately you get what you pay for, at least to a certain extent. Like I wouldn't buy the cheapest Dell or HP and expect much from it.

Yeah I tend to go in the middle price-wise, but this one started having problems like a few months after the warranty ran out :/ I took it to a guy who replaced my hard drive once on my old laptop (years and years ago), several times. And one time I told him that I needed a new hard drive and he "fixed" other things instead, and then when it finally came time to replace the hard drive it was gonna be like another $200. So like no, not after i told you it needed a hard drive and you didn't replace it -.- I did it myself
Sorry that's really really rambly and not super important :P I paid I think $5-600 for this laptop and my last Toshiba lasted so long that I looked specifically for this brand but I won't be buying another one, that's for sure :L
Yeah, laptops can be so tricky :/ Hard to fix certain problems. I'm happier with a nice-ish desktop and an inexpensive tablet - really easy to replace/update parts with the former, and the latter is replaceable :) Good luck with whatever you end up deciding!

Yeah a desktop really isn't an option for me right now. I do have a tablet, but I don't like actually having to do much on it, especially with Subeta so :x
Thanks for the help though c:
I'm sorry your computer is freaking out. We've had awful experience with Toshibas too :c
I currently have an Asus and it's going great. Lenovo is also wonderful, and if you have a bit more money, I'd definitely suggest a Sony. I've had two Sony computers in the past and they were wonderful.
I have a Samsung right now, and I really enjoy it and have had zero issues with it. I've had it for almost two years. My only thing is I have a cracked top corner, but that was my own fault for accidentally dropping my computer case at the airport...
Before that I had an HP, which was horrible (my graphics card broke so I had a pink screen 85% of the time), and then I had an Acer for a while, but an internal fan broke or something so it over-heated and randomly shut down all the time, which was fun.
I've heard really good things about Asus, and I'd recommend Samsung as well.
Thank you both!
I actually have had Samsung phones for the past few years, and when I upgrade mine again this summer I plan on getting a Samsung then too.
I think my mom has had both an HP and an Acer before and neither really lasted very long. Also this laptop in particular (of mine) came from Walmart, whereas my first came from Best Buy. Like, the Geek Squad was kind of useless the one time I went in (they told me they couldn't fix a virus that I ended up taking care of myself) but idk at least that laptop outlasted its warranty more than a few months before it started breaking down on me :P
I switched over to my Dell Inspiron last year after using a Sony Vaio for three years. I did a lot of research before choosing it - including some advice from a tech-savvy friend of mine and another friend of my dad's. It has been everything I had hoped it would be :)
That being said, I do believe you get a better system for your money. Be sure to do your research and read a ton of reviews! It is a lot of effort, but when you're making a large purchase the extra work is well worth it!
As for my past experience with laptops, I've had a Sony Vaio and HP. They each lasted at least three years, but also had their own set of issues that would prevent me from purchasing another for a while. The worst laptop by far was my Acer. I dropped it three inches from the ground and the entire screen gave out. It didn't last much longer, even after the screen was replaced :(
We had a bad experience with Dell, which makes me a little wary to look into getting one, even though that was years and years ago. I do agree that you get what you pay for (within reason, of course. I mean a mac is never going to be worth the price imo :P ) Thanks for your opinion c:
