what's subeta like, compared to neopets?

Hello, I am too. I just joined today, but it seems to be pretty similar (although much better). The battling system is what drew me here (I was really into battling & training on Neo), and it is very similar to what the Battledome on Neo used to be before the update. Besides that, like Neo there are flashgames, non-flash games and quest that are good for earning points. Pets can have minions (kinda like petpets), and can have their color changed. I'm still exploring the site myself, but it seems to be pretty cool so far. c:

As a former Neopian, I can say that Subeta is similar, yet different. It's definitely a lot more adult-friendly and the staff are much more responsive here.

You can dress up your human avatar, sort of like customization. There are items that you can buy for real money but you can also buy them with sP. Things bought with Cash Shop Credits, or CSC, are fun to play with but not necessary for fun. There are so many ways to make sP, like through questing or restocking. You don't have to pay for slots in your shop, which makes it so much easier than Neopets. Restocking is so much easier as well.

Pets are also big here on Subeta. Like Neopets, you can paint them and zap them and give them stories. Battling is also big here. I'm not a battler myself but it is very immersive and definitely something that a lot of people enjoy.

i do really like it so far! i looove the pet art on here! i'd like to some day create my own pet site (i've wanted to do it since i was 10, and now i actually have some of the skills required for it).

You can code your own pet profile or user profile. There isn't the capability here to create a pet site like the ones over at Neo but there are so many ways to use your coding abilities to make pet and user profiles look absolutely amazing. Mine isn't exactly the best example because I'm actually waiting to commission a profile, but the users on this site are incredibly talented.

Subeta is a really cool place and there's always stuff going on around here, whether it be through events or the release of new items. There are always new things to work towards too!

Just to give you a tip: This is different than what Neopets does, but you can ping users on the forums to alert them to your post. All you have to do is make the "@" sign, then type the user's username. You can also call forum groups using "#" and then the name of the forum group. Just be careful not to ping people unnecessarily because not everyone appreciates that.

Ahh, welcome to subeta gais! I too came from neopets, but that was over 9 years ago (but I digress).

I would say that Neopets and Subeta are similiar in the effect that there's pets you can train/battle/color.. and that we have plots.. and items. Otherwise, they're very different (there's far more freedom of speech, openness, PG13, diversity, the staff listen and interact with us all the time). Training is far easier, and it's pretty easy to get through the lower battling tiers without breaking the bank much or thinking too hard at all (weapon + weapon + scroll = win!) outside of remembering that healing is always the most important thing (later down the line that's another story, but that's typically how battling goes). Pet coloring here, is extremely easy due to the relative ease of earning sP-- the real, shall we say, prestige comes from pet names which are luckily a lot easier to come by here than on neopets (or at least, that was the case when I played, but again that was err.. 9+ years ago haha).

And we do of course, have plots-- usually during the summer time, or sometimes as a surprise during one of our anual events-- and the events. Y'all sadly just missed our Zombie/Sweetheart event (Pandemic/Survival, which is our "valentines" event), but in a few weeks (or a week.. soon, it's.. soon haha) we'll start up with the Steampunky(Steamwork) Masquerade event which is always extremely fun.

On the topic of the just ended event, now would be a great time to make sure to do the Wizard Quests (He's located in the Sacred Lands, in the really pretty blue roofed building in the lower lefthand corner)! He'll give you guys wizard tokens, which you can in turn vend (basically you "pay" 2 wizard tokens and get a random item from a particular restocking shop/color theme specific to each vending machine)-- right now the Grave Digger Vending Machine has a chance of giving you a retired item specific to this past holiday, some of which are pretty pricey and can get y'all started off with a nice amount of sP (: (that vending machine is located in Shadowglen).

Also in Shadowglen is Quenin's Quests who is sometimes nice enough to give you a Mage Amulet when they're feeling nice (they-- not he/she, for the record!), which can be gambled for a possible tome (stat booster) or you can just sell for about 300k a pop.

Also if you're into battling be sure to check out the Beginner Guide and In-depth Guides located at the top of the Battle Coliseum-- it's got some pretty helpful stuff on how battling works around here, but the battlers (myself included, unless I'm being bitter about something y'all won't have to worry about for a long time xD) are also super helpful and if you ever need any help or advice about anything there's a big Battle Chat board in the battle section of the forums where you're free to post because despite what people say we (usually) don't bite (you're also free to lurk, which is what I did for a many year myself).

Lastly-- if interested in pet names it's handy to know (because this is always the first thing I do upon finding a petsite haha) that you can put "subeta.net/pets/[petname]" into your url with any petname you're curious about-- if the name isn't taken it'll tell you so, or it might tell you the pet name is inactive and free to take (or that y'know it's owned by someone haha).

So that was a bit tl;dr (opps) but considering battling was mentioned, a natoriously pricey hobby, I figured I'd give some personal directions to where to get headed in the right direction. If y'all have any questions feel free to give me a poke (:

The art is better, it's not impossible to make $$$$ without grinding for hours in the game room, shops don't take hours to restock anything worthwhile (i.e., something that yields a profit greater than 1k or so), and you can say things like poop and uncle and not worry about being silenced/suspended/pestered by stupid filters.

Another difference is that management are still very accessible compared to other sites. :)

Anyway, welcome here :D Like Andrea said, we have a Masquerade event coming soon, in a little less than 2 weeks, if I remember right. There will be an event forum put up once it starts, and these events are great because you can get to know more people :D

i already like it here more because WOW i got in so much trouble on neopets. i had gone through close to 100 accounts (i'm not even exaggerating, sadly) on there because i kept getting in trouble with tnt. but the good news is neopets isn't shutting down. however, i do think i'll stick around here a little bit. c: seems like a nice enough place.

Welcome Neopets ppl! Like everyone else, I used to play as well. Not actively for 5-6 years now. The BEST thing I found about switching over was the shop search. Tiny thing, yeah. It's much better knowing you're buying the cheapest price instead of refreshing 10+ times to make sure. It's like the Super Shop Wiz except you can't get banned from using it. Battling is easy and fun to get into. If you have any questions or want to make a new friend feel free to comment me :) I have a small guide and calendar of Subeta events on my profile. The next event coming up is the Masquerade Ball where we all dress up our HAs (human avatars) in masks and dance with each other. Forums get really busy, it's quite fun with good prizes.

Hi Paige ! How the heck do you go through 100 accounts? :P You CAN say pretty much anything here within reason. Just don't go around swearing at people and you'll be fine. The people on here are great, if you mis-price an item then like 90% of the time someone will tell you or send it back. Just one example :)

Hiya! The battling system is really cool. If you're dedicated you can build your pet up really quickly. Training sessions are very short early on and most of the easier opponents drop little eggs that you can use on your pet to gain stats.

Hi! Love your username :) The best way to make money is probably through questing. The most profitable quests are the Wizard, Alexander/Library, Maleria and Saggitarius. Don't panic if the Wizard asks you for women's panties - it's normal (for him). With the tokens you get from his quests you can VEND. I like vending at the Blue Sky Vending Machine which is in Veta Lakes. Gives you a ton of expensive books!

Hi! On Neopets the main gold account feature to me was the Super Shop Wizard. Here you get that by default. The benefits of a gold account here are extra pet slots (you start with 5 slots, having a gold account moves it up to 10. You still keep them when your gold account expires), shorter training sessions, a shop AUTOPRICER! If you spend all day questing and vending you could end up with 500+ items in your shop. Doesn't matter. The autopricer matches every single item with the lowest current shop search price. It is a god-send. There are other benefits listed on the Gold Account medal page (in the cash shop) but those are the main ones to me. Oh yeah and extra quests per day. You don't have to spend real $$ to get a gold account either, if you work hard enough you can buy them with sP from user shops.

Hi - Spardels are very cute :) Here instead of paint brushes we have potions. So to make your pet Angelic you would need to use an Angelic Potion. That's the most expensive one! You can also try your luck with the Zapper in Darkside (EDIT: I've been told you can't get Angelic from the zapper, oh well!), exactly like the Neopets zapper except you don't need to complete a map to access it and you can use it multiple times per day. He accepts wizard tokens which you can get from doing Wizard Quests. There are a few colours that require a unique way to get them, but potions do most colours :)
