Hi all! My name is Stari and I'm pretty new here. Just made the switch from Neo to Subeta after remembering it from years ago. Things are so different here and I don't remember barely anything from my time here probably 4 or more years ago ;P.

If anyone's got any advice on how things work around here beyond the basic pet-site jargon that would be splendid! Any tips on how an artist and character designer should take their first steps here would be awesome too :D.

a good thing to do to start as an artist, is to make a thread in the Freebie Art boards! You can pick and choose who gets free art, and it'll help you practice and get your name out there.

After you've done a few of those for examples, you can make an art board where you charge people either CSC, SP, or USD!

I definitely agree that the best thing to do for a new artist is to make a Freebie thread!

As others have said, freebie boards are great for testing the waters- you don't have to load yourself down, but you can pick one or two and just kind of pay attention to the types of things people are asking for. I personally love commissioning quad and human art of my characters, but you might want to give custom wears a try too, as they're one of the most lucrative things an artist can pick up here. If you have characters of your own, it's also nice to have something personal that represents them on the site either for treasure chests or in the case that you want to dress up as them (or both).

Make sure no matter what forum you make a board in though, that you read the rules of that forum- Subeta's forum and commissioning rules generally aren't strict, but might be very different than what you're used to.
