Gah, why do I play with him?

Nursing a cold right now, so I forgot the actual question: how much would you spend on his quests? I have usually toyed with him to simply get the sp and profit from him, but now I sometimes think I wouldn't mind actually playing not for profit only.. How much is the end item worth? How much would you spend on completing the game and how difficult is it? I know the basics of IH, but I'm a bit scared of running out of sP.. This is the second time in this game, or today, actually where he asked for something expensive, first was some rare shirt which was worth 2 mill.
