I'm really not much of a battler (read: I have no idea what I'm doing).

My pets just hit ~900 even stats and I'm kind of wondering what a good, all-purpose build (or builds?) would be for them before I train them too far and screw everything up. I have two battlers so I'm not totally opposed to two separate builds depending on what works best.

But I've heard Baenwurath is a pain in the ass unless you have a custom build for it. If that's not going to be useful to me for other opponents it'd probably just be easier to train up a third pet for that, right?

I'll assume you have read the sticky (A Guide to Battling) and know what Level, Str, Def, Speed, HP, and Intel does. No build is absolutely perfect, but some (like HP + Str) are more versatile than others for different situations.

My commentary on them at this time of post:

  1. Level Simple, just allows you to train other stats besides Intel at Jim. The staff experimented with the perk system which you could get a perk point that had little bonuses, but it was scrapped. Any other uses of level in the future is uncertain.

  2. Str The more you have, the more damage per attack icon to the opponent every turn. This is usually favored because you can defeat an opponent quicker and save time, or before they defeat you, or to get more damage per loss during boss fights.

  3. Defense The more you have, the less damage you take IF YOU CAN BLOCK the icons. You need the right defensive weapons to take advantage of your defense stats. Having a high defense also passively reduces your chances of being critically hit.

  4. Speed Affects your chance of critically hitting an opponent or being critically hit, and also affects weapon blessing and curse rates. I believe there are conditional tiers such as 1000, 2000, and 3000, and there's been proposals of 4000 as well. You can also critical hit your opponent when your speed is lower than them, but the chance depends on the speed difference, so don't count on this. This stats is considered the least useful, but during long fights it could determine the difference between winning or losing when you take too many critical hits and could not defend or heal enough to outlast the opponent, or your freeze blessing doesn't show up enough and you get frozen. I'm talking several thousand HPs a turn. Many people take the risk with lower speed though, because you can just try again and see if you get lucky.

  5. HP Keeps you alive in battle. Most percentage healing weapons will heal their percentage up to 7500HP, after that it's capped. More HP will still act as a buffer so you can heal back up. Some battles do not allow you to heal, hence this becomes more important during those situations.

  6. Intel Determines how many alchemy points, and how many scrolls you can equip. The scrolls act as another weapon on its own. Depending on the scroll it could do similar things a weapon can do: hit, block, heal, freeze, or steal. Some of them can make a battle much easier or save you multiple times. Some battles have intel disabled to make things challenging.

Thanks, but I was hoping more for just straight up numbers because as I said, I have no idea what I'm doing :(

You can take a look at the pet stats in the About Subeta page, and their owners battle stats. Many of them tend to be at 5k-8k str, 7-8k hp, 3-4k def, and 3k speed.

I can't make a straight up recommendation, because the current scene is changing when the battle admins are introducing weapons that favor defensive biased builds. Currently, many battlers found the above stats sufficient to get at least 5 wins on all the challengers, but they might have to borrow some weapons for some battles.
