Hello! I am currently in college for graphic design, and none the less, I can not afford photoshop, however, I do use it at college quite a bit! I can say that is my program of choice, but here at home, I use Gimp :)

What do you guys use to make what you make? It doesn't even have to be a program, it can be a site as well. I wish to hear all of your programs, so hopefully I can become more aware of what is out there!

My SAI trial just died, so I'm pretty bummed about that.

Have you tried purchasing a student edition of Photoshop? It's hundreds of dollars cheaper than the standard price (the student edition of Photoshop CS6 Extended is $349USD according to the Adobe website), and all you need to do to use it is prove that you're a student. You could also try Photoshop Elements; it's a lot cheaper than Photoshop, and it has a lot of the same features.

i use pixelmator, which is $30, but i think it's only for mac. an alternative is firealpaca, which is free and works a lot like sai, and is for any computer.

If you have a .edu email address you can get the Creative Cloud with all the Adobe programs for $20 a month. It's really inexpensive for what you get for sure!

You can also purchase Sketch 3 if you want to get into web/app design for $50 with a .edu email address.

❤️ Check out my graphic design work! ❤️

I know I'm a little late here, but there's a company called Affinity that makes two applications, Photo and Designer. Photo is a Photoshop competitor, and Designer is an Illustrator competitor. They're missing a few of the more advanced features of the Adobe products, but they're one-time purchases at $50 each with lifetime updates. I haven't yet encountered a situation where they didn't get the job done!

Also, keep an eye out for sales on Clip Studio (Manga Studio) if you don't already have it. I've bought it on two separate occasions for around $15. Totally worth it, it's better for drawing than any photo editing program.

[Edit] Oh my goodness I totally read the original post date as 2018, I guess I'm REALLY late. So sorry about that x.x I didn't realize this forum was so dead.
