My sister gets her recommendations from friends, and one of my buddies found his favorite band through Pandora. I personally binge-watch AMVs--found a lot of small-but-great artists that way :)
So, what's your preferred method of finding new music?
[tot=Prowriter]
Ah, AMVs are the BEST for finding new music! I can't even express how much I love them :D Apart from that, I usually go through random music recommendations on YouTube and find bands similar to the ones I already like.
I'll usually end up looking for a song I like on Youtube and then watch the related videos and see if I like any of those songs, like said.
I also like to scour the iTunes charts and go through the different genres I like and listen to the most popular songs (if I haven't heard them before). I also listen to the radio a fair bit so I'll hear new stuff that way too.
I get recommendations from friends or sometimes I find a song on the television through commercials and use Shazam to find the name, usually after looking up the song I find more music through the related videos.
Also because I have iTunes whatever songs I have I get recommendations and if I like some songs it will take note and recommend me more based off that. It's very helpful.
Only problem is, with music I am very picky.
I listen to the radio & watch MTV. Its the bestest. I kid, I kid. I never listen to the radio or watch stations like MTV.
Dirrty Remixes :-D If the album cover looks good I check out a track or two. Its mostley pop, rock, crap like that. I might not like the originals but some of the remixes are good. Ex: Ke$ha - Blow. I hate her, but I like the Cosmic Dawn Remix Edit. That & I just listen to some DJs podcasts, If I like some of the tracks they have in their mix I look up the artist.

Uh it takes me really long to find a new song I usually listen to old songs and like if I hear a song on the radio I usually hate it for the first few listens then a year late I like that song... lol random :)

I go to Wikipedia and get on the page of the genre I want to hear more of, and grab the major artists of said genre. Then go similar to on Allmusic.
Silence is golden... Duct tape is silver.
Generally many torrent sites are able to grab songs before they have been completely legally “copyrighted", when bands are releasing them for free. I'll tend to download a playlist within the first month it's released of indie music and shuffle through (takes A LOT of time) to find the best ones. However, this way keeps me up to date and ahead of a lot of other, as well as allows me to get free music while the band is seeking to reach out to anyone and everyone (always showing others what I've found!). It's funny to find a song and a year later hear it on a lot of pop stations and seeing the band rise to fame. I'm always proud ^.^
I listen to peoples playlists on spotify
I like to use Pandora and the Spotify discover to check out new music. Sometimes I willcheck out YouTube related videos to what I'm listening to and I just recently started a last.fm account, which is pretty cool. I do love AMVs to find new music. I listen to just about every genre so I'm always finding new songs to listen to. ^_^ Oh I also go by word of mouth from my friends and I listen to the radio every once and a while to see what's current. :3
EDIT: Also, (since a song from FullMetal Alchemist just came on my playlist), I love a lot of the music they use in the anime I watch and from video games I play, so I listen to a lot of that too. ^_^
8tracks! It's very easy, the playlists are great and you can even find music for studying. Otherwise, last.fm is great for finding new musicians based on what you already like / listen to.
oh wow, i never really thought about this. i usually check out recommendations from friends, spotify, lastfm, and youtube. also i like checking out things that get good reviews from a few of the music websites i keep track of (and sometimes the lower scores just to see if they're that bad). and ofc if i hear something i like on the radio i'll look for more from the artist. idk i like trying to keep an open mind with music. c:
This is kind of reiterating what others have said, but I definitely either go to on Youtube and look at recommended videos after going to the video for a song I like. I sometimes just scroll through popular music playlists too.
I also ask my friends who have similar music tastes as me.
And lastly, I use the browse feature on Spotify like no other.
I used to be a lot better at finding new music. I have gotten lazy the last few years. My sister and boyfriend usually find the music I listen to. He's super into finding indie/up-and-coming artists.
Through other people on plug.dj. Really interesting to see what other people like and maybe I might like it! Or Youtube. Either one works. :P

It's usually suggestions from Pandora, or the radio there. That and Spotify. As most mentioned above, AMV's, usually are how I find a nice new song, and hopefully the rest of what the artists make, becomes a new favorite too!
Some have even come from my brother and friends. So it's pretty nice to have all these places to find new music. :D
♥ [flower=owl] ♥
i get a lot of bands following me on twitter so if i can be bothered, i give them a listen. other than that, i watch the Scuzz and Kerrang music channels and they often have new bands on, or Spotify's "related artists" sections can be helpful :)
