Okay, so I don't make many male HAs, but I have a ton of stuff in my wardrobe and just spent the last few hours somewhat desperately searching for some way to make a more masculine jawline and cheekbone. Perhaps something could be done to help create a new facial structure for our HAs with some shadowing. Private Outfit this was the outfit I presented for the new contest (edited since I had deleted and remade it)

I know there's a couple of CWs that give the impression of cheekbones.
Awesome, I'll have to try and check the shops for those, although it would be nice to have at least a few of them available for easier purchase.
I support this shadow idea. It'd be great if we have a few shades from a subtle restore-cheekbone-to-the-heavily-pancaked-abercrombie-model to starkly-goth-he's-starving boneshadow that will work for darker and lighter skintones. It'd be great too if they can come in a few shapes.
This idea needs a complimentary side to it, IMO.
There can also be cheek highlights. It's possible to fake a cheekbone if your base skintone is one of the darker ones or odd-colored enough that it takes out the pinky-red cutes-ness of many of the existing blushes. If you pick just the right color blush it's convincing because the lightsource is fixed. This only works in a few cases though. Some blushes that are only a half-skintone or quarter-skintone lighter than the base skintones can help by making a more subtle cheekbone top.
I'm not totally sure it's in line with... not the aesthetic of the website? But definitely the art style itself, which is sort of simplistic and iconic on purpose. More and more details take away from the strength of what's there.
Then again, that's just MY taste, and it would be silly to expect the entire site to conform to that. If people wanna give their masculine HAs cheekbones there's no reason to object. But this might be why there aren't many options to choose from yet.
I would love an item like that example. So much. I know other similar items have been made, mostly by incorporating body shading as well, so maybe that's a route that can be taken more often. I'd love to see it.
For example (okay so it's more hollow cheeks than cheekbone shading, but the idea's similar):
Edit: Also, for what it's worth, you say you're not an avatar artist but I would totes plunk down CSC for cheek shading like your example. :3
I'm with you. I'd love to have a "body" item, that will do that. (I use that cw Dungeon Crawler, with over 50% of my avatars)
I agree with this! I think it would be awesome. And I get the whole "simplistic" thing, too, but looking at the hair we have... some of it is pretty realistic. There's a lot of things I think could be done with faces.
I use the Dungeon Crawler Compact pretty religiously as well, and unfortunately have come to think of the HA face as even "fatter" looking than before, as a result.
That said, I don't see how shadowing wouldn't be in the art style of the site. Both and can be layered carefully to give the impression of cheekbones. Heck, probably the second one doesn't even need to be "carefully" layered - it kind of does it on its own.
(Unrelated note: while it would make me pretty happy to get some type of contouring items, I'm still continually flummoxed and grossed out at the big Kewpie-esque cankles these HAs have)
I should stop reading this thread because it's making me really self-conscious about my actual, real-life face, lol.
That's a really good example imo. 8D I'd love to see cheekbones and more facial/body contouring. ;O;
