Is anyone else angry about the series finale of legend of Korra?
I was actually happily surprised by the ending. For the past two seasons I've been terrified that they've been queerbaiting us with Korra/Asami, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who didn't even consider that they might in fact acknowledge the ship despite the fact that there was a lot of buildup to it, let alone canonize it. That just doesn't ever happen, so why bother hoping for it.
Considering legal reasons they obviously couldn't go with an ending kiss like they did with ATLA, but with the wedding preceding the final 'DNA-beam' moment, at least I thought it was well enough structured with parallels.
The thing is, that this was the first time we've gotten such representation that wasn't left on a joke or queerbaiting level, or only confirmed after the show was over - which they did as well, but it wasn't the only content we got. (I'm looking at you, JKR.) It's really important especially since it was featured in a show primarily aimed at younger audiences. We are constantly told that non-straight couples cannot happen in cartoons because somehow they are 'dirtier' than het ships, even if their interactions would be just as or even more chaste than a het couple's.
I actually quite like Makorra and wouldn't have minded them being endgame, which I honestly expected to happen at first. But there is already plenty of representation for straight people even in cartoons.
I also found it wonderful that they focused on Bolin and Mako fixing their relationship. The show puts a lot of value on familial ties (which I approve wholeheartedly), so it would have been strange for them to not address the issues the brothers had.
Idk I was more than happy with the ending to be honest?
