It would be really nice to get this kind of alert when you're trying to gift something that someone else has already put under a tree. Ideally it would work along the lines of "This is already under the tree. Do you want to continue?" so that you can still choose to give the gift regardless, as some items might be nice to get duplicates of.

I think this is a great idea. It would help out a lot to those gifting expensive items under someone's tree so people could choose if they wanted to do something else with the item or not.

I buy everyone I know the same thing, so if they already got one, I'll just skip to someone else and this person will have to makedo without a gift, because they don't need two.

Also, I sell my duplicates. I like getting money for Luminaire

I don't really think we need this. There's nothing wrong with doubles, the person could either sell it or gift it to someone else if they have no use for it. And sometimes people actually need the doubles. I would hate to avoid giving someone something because it was already under the tree only to find out that they actually need 15 of them.

Likewise, I would hate to keep having to click through an extra page just to confirm everything I'm giving someone, especially if I were giving them multiples (I put some MKBs under a few friends' trees earlier this month, that's something most people could use multiples of)

I like this idea. Another!

It would certainly be helpful when gifting.

As much as I hate the idea of gifting someone a duplicate item (minus things like csc or mkbs), I'd be kind of frustrated if I spent a lot of money on a cw/etc or opened a donation item specifically for gifting purposes only to find out that they already have it.

It's not a bad idea, but ultimately I think this feature would bother me more than reassure me.

This seems really unneeded. There are so many items that people collect duplicates of (wiz tokens, vesnali coins, lounge trinkets...), mkbs, sub q invites, random items they hoard that would be make this system almost useless.

If you are that concerned with the idea of duplicating a gift, wait until the trees are done and use the gift center.

I really like the idea, for my opinion, if you want to give something like csc you could skip and continue if it was like it is suggested. But it could be really annoying to give someone expensive doubles when there are others in my fl who want the same since I'm hoarding cool items the year round to gift them on Luminaire by using the search function of the WL. So I'd tolaty support this. Another way would be to take of stuff you got from your wishlist without looking what you got. You could get a event telling you that someone gifted you something from your wl and if you want to remove it of your wl. I have the dark feeling that something like this was already possible sometimes with the gifts from the gift center and I liked it.

TBH, this would probably annoy me more than anything.

If I go purchase something for a specific person and then I find out they already have it I'm not going to give it to them... but then I'm basically out of that sP I spent because lord knows unless its a wearables, stat booster or something for a quest it can take AGES to sell.

I would rather people get duplicates and live unaware of whats under other people's trees.

ALSO it could exploited easily. "Oh you have the things on my WL, can you just check over and over and over again if they are already under my tree? Thanks."

Not saying everyone is going to do that, but some people will and that makes them dicks.

Wouldn't the person just look at the WL and see what is missing? It would defeat the purpose of putting it under a tree in the first place

Goodness knows I would. With my small wishlist of things that I mostly just haven't gotten around to buying for myself, but somewhat higher cost in most cases, I'd almost DEFINITELY know what was taken off. Even if I didn't go actively looking for it, when I do my weekly price check of wishlist items to buy the ones that are in an "acceptable" range, I'd be like "Where the heck did that jacket....? OH GOTDANG JUST RUINED LUMINAIRE PROBABLY" and then I'd be sore about it.

I like this idea, it's a nice idea. But reading over the concerns I'm starting to lean against it. One of my own concerns is I like to give tokens and CSC cards, though I suppose a exception could be placed on items like that.

EDIT: Forum point, nice.

I personally love this idea, I think it would make gifting a whole lot easier and would help keep down the number of duplicates people get. I know I always get multiples of the same thing since my wishlist is so small, and I'd like to be able to avoid doing that to other people. I can understand the concerns being brought up but I honestly think that the pros outweigh the cons... Maybe that's just me though.

this exactly. we've already had the 'you have this item' removed from wishlists because of the lag it caused, can you imagine how much we'd get if there was something in place to check every single gift under every single tree for doubles?

WHY SHOULD I BUST MY ASS INTO LOOKING AT 16 PAGES OF WISHLISTS FOR 40 USERS.

I'm giving everyone 100 oofa fruits and it's final.

10 days later, but an idea occured to me... :)

And I don't know if it is possible, but I figure it's worth a mention...

How about if when you go to the user's wl, it tells the user lookin' at the wl if the owner of the wl has it under their tree? That way, a user knows when they look at the wl if it is under the tree without havn' to purchase it first, and if duplicates are needed they can be gifted...

But, I also don't know what kind of lag this might generate, and duplicates are always better than terrible lag the whole Luminaire season... :)

Interesting idea, but people would just ask their friends to go look through their wishlist to see what they've gotten. Really I think it's just best if everyone remained in the dark about what is in the presents.

If someone really hates the idea of giving duplicates, they can always wait until after Luminaire ends and the user has cleaned up their wishlist before sending them gifts.
