What I do is wait several minutes then I go to another page. Only then would any alert or event I delete remain deleted

Sometimes that happens, especially if you delete them and immediately go to another page. I find deleting twice (deleting on one page, going to another and deleting again) or waiting a while before changing pages after deleting the first time usually works.

Chances are you aren't giving the cache as chance to catch up. As suggested, either wait a minute, delete them again, or you can clear your cache manually. :)
