I played gaia like a fiend in high school, and I don't really remember what I was doing that whole time now that I've come back from a several-year hiatus because it's literally not even the same website. They straight up tell you the "best" way to make Gold is to just buy it with real money

that and they got rid of zOmg already which everyone is pissed about, but like... even their games are trash?? THEIR GAMES ARE TRASH!! WHAT IS THAT STUPID WORD GAME? I remember there being WAY more games on gaia, and now it's got this "tournament" bullshit with THREE games that you have to pay gold to play in the first place

and then everyones running around talking about how 'gold generators' are back??? but I came back from hiatus with nothing except the items I'm wearing on my avatar, I have 10k gold, and I cant for the LIFE Of me figure out how to make more? What the fuck is everyone complaining about it's "too easy" to make gold?? WHERE???

everything just costs billions and like Im just sitting here looking at this site, I dont know how to navigate around it, there's nothing to do anymore, the profiles look exactly the same as they did in 2008 (read: like junk), literally I dont even know if you can play Gaia without spending real money anymore?

I wanted to come back because I missed it and they have cute avatars, and I used to do art commissions there, and I wanted to play zOMG and the other games, and actually I really like their Monster Galaxy app so I thought 'hey maybe I'll come support these dudez on their website again' but like, fuckin, nope, lmao

what gives what happened here like i don't get it

I FEEL YOU a while ago i made a new gaia after not using it for maybe 6 years and it's so. terrible. there's nothing to do and it's impossible to make money and it's just really shitty now. i only go there to check the roleplay boards every now and then.

omg thank u like i even whined about this /on actual gaia/ and nobody has even said anything lmao like someone tipped the post and send me a couple k gold but that was it. nobody can tell me why they're all complaining about this "its too easy to make gold" junk

all i know is that everything costs hundreds of billions of gold and i dont know how anyone achieves that other than by just buying collectible items. which is bunk.

also im bummed because I remembered that I used to have that little dragon collectible guy?? like I had 2 or 3 of those because my friend got one for me, and i must have sold them years ago because I dont have them anymore >: curse you, past me!!

@ mucha They got rid of zOMG?! I remember logging into Gaia earlier this year and wondering where the hell zOMG went because I felt like playing it, I figured it was just down for maintenance or something. Dude that game was so much fun (lots of areas to explore! gnomes to slay! cows to push onto the ground?), I'm sad to hear it's gone. Gaia as a whole used to be really fun back then, they had interesting NPCs and all these comics and plots about them.

I'm feeling all nostalgic right now because I just remembered years ago they used to have a cinema thing where you could watch anime and movies in it (including Mushishi, which I now love thanks to that) and throw tomatoes at the screen etc.

Lol, I once had millions on that site. It's easy yes ofcourse if you buy items with cash and sell it! You get rich in no time. But it's not worth spending money on that site. I got bored after a few days.

YEP zOMG is completely gone, they shut it down. And I can't for the life of me figure out why, because everyone on the site seems to be in a huff about it as well. If everyone likes it I don't know why they'd have gotten rid of it, but I'm just a lowly peasant, so what do I know. They still have Towns and Towns II but I can't figure out what they're really for? You can still catch bugs and pick up pieces of paper and talk to people in there but they're laggy as heck and I can't even figure out how to get a house so I don't think I care. :I

o m g I forgot about the cinema thing too! That was awesome! Ugh back in it's heyday it was such a good place to hang out, I wonder if there's any place that's popped up that's similar to how they used to be

zOMG WAS MY LIFE. I came back and got hacked. Well they only stole the good items that are now worth billions, and all my money..So I completely stop playing it. LOOL -_-

What happened with zOMG was there was a glitch in the code where someone could get access to accounts/major parts of the website if they wanted to, and while it hadn't happened yet, they also couldn't fix it easily, so it was easier to just take it down. sometimes good items will showup in dumpster dive and philosopher's caches can be sold back for 25000, which isn't a lot but adds up.

I've been off and on for a while and it's not even fun to me anymore. Everything is so inflated, it's ridiculous. Like, 1,000,000,000g is basically dirt poor. I would usually just be a little turd in the CB, but that's not even fun to me anymore :C I never really played zOMG

I checked back on Gaia a bit ago and was upset to see Heralds of Chaos was gone. It was genuinely a fun game. That and the resort world thing wasn't that bad either. It was kind of funny seeing all my items in the billions on MP tho.

I tried to see if I could adapt to new Gaia but I'm just so disillusioned with the whole thing. The last straw for me was that it took them two weeks to fix the broken advent calendar completion grant and that their Christmas plot was completely broken. It's obvious they put more effort into promoting the cash shop than anything else on the site :T

I tried, I really did. I could put up with it for a while but I can't buy any more items on there that aren't already in my inventory so my Gaia experience is pretty much 'log in for a few minutes, then log out'.

it's more for kids now. it's better than it changes, in my opinion. gaia used to be pretty nasty.

I don't know, the systems as a general as super broken and they don't seem to be doing anything to change it. zOMG was literally one of the ones games I ever played on that site, it was interactive and kept my attention, which is a considerable feat. They could at least try to find a way to have users put their in game currency(the gold) back into the system and lower the inflation at least a little. :/ It would be a nice change of pace they tried to actually improve the site instead of raking in cash. :'(

I don't even bother looking... I've played the site off an on for years since 2007 never did make much gold but I played because my friend played and it was something to do. Actually it's been almost a year and a half since I've even LOGGED IN. My friend only uses barely and she's kept me up to date kinda on what's been going on. I just can really only shake my head.

They've become greedy, not giving a damn about their userbase only wanting your money and they won't release anything worth while that doesn't cost actual gold. And if by some chance they DO add new shop items, you can't freaking buy them because they cost a fortune.

You guys are making me feel old. I started playing on Gaia back in 2004 (college for me). I never really cared for the games. I RPed in the forums like a fiend, and made what gold I needed as a bonus to that. I had a big wardrobe, used the journal heavily, liked my profile page.

What turned me away wasn't the change in games. I never cared about those. What made me leave and not look back was the change in the community. The RP became all about sex and hooking up. General Chat became very shallow, judgmental, and mean. The community wasn't tight anymore, wasn't caring for other people anymore.

Did the economy become all about spending real money? Yes, it did, but I was willing to live with that. I wasn't gonna deal with people's cruel behavior though.

They created gold generators which give out insane amount of gold into the system. I think they're cash shop items. Its basically making people who can only get gold(as little as they can since every priced thing is insane now)poor as heck. About five Announcements every day to buy cash items. They actually disabled a feature that could have turned them off to intensify the torture. It was easy to make friends when they had zomg. Now you have to go into the wild forest that is their forum page<.< A lot of people have said that it might not last two years. It's a little sad that it's now a countdown to when will the site shut down for good.

I pretty much gave up on it because it's next to impossible to earn gold without buying something with real money, like others have said. I literally can't afford to have fun on that site anymore, lol. Also like people said, there's really nothing to do. Gaia was a place that even before, when I played it more, I'd log out and forget about it for weeks/months at a time. I was super into evolving items when they first came out and I made sure to log in a lot to see what they were turning into, but then came the chance items. I spent more than I care to admit in both gold and IRL money trying to get the rarest prizes from them and got junk in return, so that was pretty much it for me. They dangle all of these nifty little prizes in front of you and no one can get them unless they have ungodly luck or unless they spend tons of cash on it, and even then it's iffy.

Basically, it just turned out to be not worth it anymore. Any and all friends I had there also stopped playing so there's just no incentive for me. Monster Galaxy was fun though, I used to play that one a lot.

heh yeah. I became a member in 2007, and had a lot of fun playing it. I visited the site after a long time, and I see zOMG removed and my 65k useless... >:(
