Hello, I had an account a few years ago that has been sucked into the abyss of inactivity. I only dabbled onsite last time, doing the games/ quests instead of getting into the forums or the rest of the site, so I hope to try new things and actually talk to some people this time. I don't want to be a lurker... I just finished my master's degree and am job hunting now ): so since I have some spare time over the next few months, I wanted to try this again. Especially since winter will come and I'm in a temporary location where I know no one. It'll be good to kill time and meet some new people, so I hope I can do so. I don't remember much from last time I was here so I'm learning the ropes again, and there seems to be some new aspects of the site or ones I didn't notice before so I have some exploring to do! Hopefully I can become active and stick around a bit this time!

Well welcome back! I just got back into this as well, but I was able to retrieve mine from the abyss of inactivity!

That's lucky you got your account back. I was gone too long I think. o: Thank you! I'm looking for a job in a museum or teaching Anthropology at university. They are jobs that aren't always available, so it may take time. I get to work at a Christmas tree farm for the holiday, then I'll probably end up in retail until the right job comes up. ): I chose a stupid major then got too much education than is currently usable/desirable, haha. Talking to people here will distract me from thinking about the bleak future. xD

Oh man, I swear the problem is always too much or too little education in an area. People can never be satisfied :p

Due to your major I am curious if you watch the TV show "Bones" based on an anthropologist. I am assuming the show isn't based completely on facts (like Criminal Minds...BAU doesn't exist), but still fun to watch!

That seriously stinks that you couldn't get it back. And I wish you the best in the job hunt! That's one thing that worries me bout school is if I will find a job that uses my major. Thanks!

It's really annoying. I couldn't get a job in my field so I went for the higher degree, but now I have the education but not the experience but I have too much education to get the experience? It's obnoxious. I applied for a job recently, which I know I can do, but they said I wasn't qualified because I lacked the experience required. I kid you not, it was maybe a few months lacking... but computers read the applications instead of people, so if you don't have the right keywords or numbers in there they throw you away. Oh well! I used to watch Bones, I read the books too - which I prefer. I stopped watching the show in the last season or so. I don't like when they pair up the main characters too much. Also, I decided not to have television any more! I recommend the books if you're a reader. I love Criminal Minds too. Have been watching through them all again on Netflix.

That's the trouble. You should study something you don't hate, but if you do you run the risk of it not being valuable to the current job market. I sort of regret school at all, since I could've just worked up in a company and saved a ton of money and time... It's hard to choose wisely. If you go after a degree that is good for jobs/money and you hate it, that's a fail too. Good luck!

Thanks! I am hoping to get a degree in Business Accounting, so hopefully that path works out.

Have you considered calling the HR department? If they are using only the computer to sift through apps, you calling might make a good impression and you can go into more detail :)

I will definitely look into the books, cannot believe I didn't realize they had some!

I think my friend is getting an accounting degree. It seems like something useful at least! :D

Perhaps I will try that. I'm going to move soon so I'm not looking too seriously yet. My seasonal job will work for the moment, then these people are going to get bombarded! Hopefully you'll like the books. ^ ^

Haha I understand, my friend has some kind of cultural studies degree, and she moves a lot, living the academic life (teaching at universities), going to conferences, etc. xD
