You should be able to keep hitting him until he dies. Do you have a freezer? Gorgun is a cheap one and available in the battle shop if you have the Hard tokens. Equipping a Negating Pylonic will give you a free turn of damage as it blocks everything. Use the Gelatin Slayer more than the Reborn Icewand of Doom.
