I hoard lots of stuff and throw prices on them, but seldom do they all sell out at once. Does anyone know or care to speculate on why this item suddenly all sold?

Was it the Item Drive item?

oho I forgot to check that! If Item Drive had something very nice as the prize, that would explain it and some other otherwise weird item runs I've been having. Thank you for reminding me of this feature.

This is one of three ingredients for the new genetech combo: Pocket Book. You also need a very expensive Gold Pot of Acrylic Hobby Paint (super rare or rare?) and A book. I'm trying to remember the name, it's common. Oh yeah, The book of little importance. People scrambled to figure this one out for a couple days, I think.

oh golly, the Low Rise Jeans were Retired. There won't be a lot of this book around so that explains better why users were paying my outrageous prices. Thank you for this information.

I think the Book of Little Importance must have a gold-attraction field on it, because there's another combo with it that required something gold I think. :)

You're very welcome. I don't think your prices are outrageous. I like how you price a lot of things somewhat high and then when that item becomes popular your prices become very low by comparison, so it's a nice way to be a philanthropist. Your shop is Ephemeral Concepts, right?

Yeah the other combo almost became obsolete last year when they changed the present wrapping and retired all the wrapping paper. There's a book that was made using that "little importance" book and a piece of golden (or gold) wrapping paper which is called The Book of Extreme Importance, or something like that.

I have a hard time keeping up with genetech combos, but I just happened to be here when they announced the new book. I'm a book fiend so I want to make a few of them (and I have some of the jeans) but the paint is too much right now. I could afford it, but I'll wait for it to go down in price. I made one book when I was lucky enough to snag a pot of paint for 950K.

It's rough when one of the items is retired and one is super rare, I think having one item be either one or the other would be difficult enough. I snagged plenty of the jeans, so I'm not complaining. I was thinking about gold paint before I went to bed (when nobody else had thought of it yet) but I was too tired to check on the different paints at that point. When I woke up the combo had been solved and the paint was very expensive. It's the fun of subeta though!! :)

Yep, that's my shop. Whenever talks about limiting shopsize I cringe, I've been building that shop for years. crouches down slightly and wraps hands over each other, in greed Philanthropy, yessss that's the ticket. It's purely Niceness!

Maybe it really is, 'cause I just got another Raffle Ticket. Hmmm.

It is fun to watch users try and figure the combos out, although I'm bad at guessing which items to keep around just-in-case. I'd be the same way if it was a food instead of a book, I am glad I stumbled across a Map in a RE so I could make those treasurefly wings for my protoplasmic omnivore pet to eat.

Hey we all have our ways of being philanthropic in SOME ways and greedy in others (well not ALL of us, some ppl are purely greedy) but I DO think that you're not greedy since you put a LOT of things in that often eventually become cheap, such as rares, or (in this case) something that gets retired and ends up being inexpensive compared to what they're being sold for now.

I'm greedy in that I will buy up stuff that I think might be sought after, such as a genetech combo--it was me, I admit it who bought up all the cheap midnight blue low rise jeans (well me and a couple other ppl who were going like mad to get them, lol) and I didn't buy any of yours so whatever you were selling them for, I didn't need to go that high to get about 22 of them. Now I'm being greedy and selling them high, but lower than the other ppl who are selling them. I want to keep at least 10 because I READ to my pets and I sell books.

I don't feed pets, but I think it's cool that we all have our things that we do.

I've been aware of your shop for years. This is my second account here. I lost the first one. And I DO think you're generous. As I said, we all have our ways of being that way. I was buying GAs during the summer when (apparently) nobody else had any cash, so there were none in the shops if I didn't keep them stocked, and I was selling them for 17.3 million, even when I could have gotten more. I like to think that I'm helping ppl when I CAN and then profiting myself at other times. It all comes out in the wash.

I hear you about shop size being limited (maybe) I had over 90,000 items in my hoarding gallery (working at the unique item achievement now 11833/15000) but I got the non unique one over a yr ago so I'm slowly trying to dump the extras out of there into my vault. It's not a high priority, but I'm down to 74764 and when I get the top achi (if I decide to go that high) for unique items I will eventually start selling stuff in a shop that I will (gasp) auto price.

I don't auto price now since most of my items in my main shop are expensive things. I hate the thought of underselling my precious items just because someone decided to undercut a rare item by a LOT and then they cascade down. Of course, that's when ppl who buy up cheap stuff get to go crazy. If my dsl were faster (it crawls) I would be buying up a LOT more cheap items. I just get SO tired of the lag. OK well I have babbled enough! :)

And speaking of that treasure map number 4, I also figured that out and bought about 10 of them before they skyrocketed, and then I sold a few for less than the truly greedy ppl. So I am arrogantly seeing myself as a combo of being savvy and also kind. Of course just having that map didn't "do" it all for me. I was mainly trying to make the books so I needed a pencil that was VERY expensive at first. So much happens around here that once the "event" or new combo is a thing of the past I have a hard time remembering to make new things and I blame that on my 59 yr old brain, lol!!

I'm glad you could make the Treasurefly for your pet, a protoplasmic omnivore? Interesting. I know that omnivores eat meat AND vegis etc, but the protoplasmic part? I'm trying to wrap my head around what that means. Does that mean you will feed it anything. I didn't even know that the Treasurefly WAS a food. Oh, duh, you were talking about the food item made FROM the T-fly, I get it!! I'm tired (as always) and still waking up after being awake over 5 hours, ugh!!

Aha, you're not the philosopher-king but the philosopher-merchant.

The pet in question http://subeta.net/pets/Procrustes. I had some art for her of her eating everything in a restaurant but a virus got my computer and I had foolishly deleted it from Photobucket like the week before. There's no game-mechanic for this, but in my imagination she eats everything not just subetafoods so that's the omni- of her -vore.

Presumably the entire Treasurefly is edible by Procrustes, but is the Genetech item that is.

Yes, that would be correct, a philosopher merchant, though I'd never thought of that term exactly. I like it! :)

Oh, I see, she looks a bit like an amoeba so that would sort of explain why she might eat anything, they just engulf food, if I'm not mistaken. I LIKE that imagination there! And I guess that she can't REALLY eat anything on subeta (not like a grarrl on neopets can, I LOVE the grarrls and I have quite a few that I still go and lodge now and then, I try to keep up, lol, even if I don't play there)

Aw, that is SO sad that you lost the art showing her eating everything in the restaurant. :(

I am impressed that she is such an amazing pet, having eaten over 5000 foods as well as her other stats!!

Your profile is always so much fun to look at, so pretty!!
