I have pokemon tcg cards and im so confused!I have cards where just the pokemon is holo.then I have cards where just the background behind pokemon is holo.I even have one where the card is holo but the pokemon and its background is not holo.

What on earth are they called?Ive heard of holo and reverse holo but im not sure which cards are what.I know there are misprint cards.. I even have a 1st edition rare holo card and a legendary rare holo(one of those 2 cards things I only have 1 card though)..Im trying to sort through my cards.

I like to classify reverse holo as a card where everything is holo. Normal holos have either the picture or the pokemon is holo (depending on the series). When the first cards came out, only the picture was holo, and only some of the rare cards had a holo version (no common or uncommon cards were holo then). First editions are worth more than the non-first editions (of a series).

My sorting method: I still collect the physical cards, and I keep them sorted by Pokedex number in two binders (there are clear plastic "pocket sheets" you can buy from the store that Pokemon cards can fit in). I also have a special binder just for special cards, like promos and mistakes. I have another binder for trainer cards, and some tins for energy cards. When I get ANY holo card, I put it in a plastic sleeve made for trading cards to keep it from getting scratched. Extra holos go in a binder specifically for the extra holos, while the extra non-holos, unfortunately, go in a paper bag. I know I should take better care of the ones in that bag, but I don't have enough room to put all of them in binders right now. For each page, I generally put a max of 36 cards in it (4 per card slot; holo cards with the sleeve count as two cards).

The official Pokemon Website is a good place for the newer cards (July 1, 2003 and newer). They have images of the cards so you can compare the images to your cards to see if there are any mistakes. Slight color differences are not considered mistakes, but printer errors/misprints are (example: one of the letters is just a black filled circle).

I usually just type "www.pokemon.com" in my address bar to get there. They have a part of their website for the trading card game database TO ACCESS THEIR DATABASE FROM THEIR MAINPAGE:

  1. Click on Trading Card Game (at the top)
  2. Scroll down (just past the featured cards) and click on "go to Trading Card Database" On this page you can search by card name and/or other criteria, and your search will bring up images of cards that fit your criteria. Keep in mind that they don't have the oldest cards yet! To access specific series, scroll down and click on "See All Expansions!" (you can click on the expansion names to get a description, and a link to a PDF card list for the expansion)

A note about expansions and cards: Each expansion has their own unique symbol on the card (on the right under the picture for older cards, lower right corner for newer cards).

Check out the Bulbapedia. That ought to answer all your questions! Best Pokemon reference I have found.... better than the official site IMO.
