Hello! Recently on a fluke, I ended up watching the first OVA episode of Ghost In the Shell: Arise. I was pretty much hooked from there and caught all four episodes of the OVA remake series.

Now I've started watching the previous series from 2002, Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It got me wondering if there were any fans of the franchise here on Subbie.

So, has anyone seen the anime series/films/read the manga? :) Did you enjoy it?

I've seen the Ghost in the Shell movies,as well as Stand Alone Complex and the first two episodes of Arise. Arise feels a lot more like Stand Alone Complex with the focus being on action and characters, while the movies were more into "big questions"/philosophical questions -- both are good, but it depends on what you're looking for.

I've heard complaints that Arise was formulaic, which it is to an extent, but it follows the formula that's already been laid out in previous Ghost in the Shell offerings. It's part of a certain formula that's generally found in Ghost in the Shell.

I've also been reading the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex manga adaptation as Kodansha's been publishing it over here, and it's pretty faithful in feel to the anime, but a little hard to read the action panels at times if you're not used to it. The Ghost in the Shell manga has a much different feel than any of the anime adaptations.

I've seen the two SACs multiple times and they're certainly among my fave mature anime. Haven't seen the movies or the ova: got stuck on the first movie's loooong intro sequence and never watched it past that, while I've heard many people dislike Arise, something to do with how they've changed the Major's character iirc. Maybe I'll check it out someday, but now I have way too many series to watch.
