I remember that before some things were changed on it the SB was wider than what it is currently. The way it is now makes for difficulty (make that near impossible TO impossible) reading what people say if they have long UNs. Their UNs force the extra images in the name bar (the gears and the comment bubble) to go to another line, hiding the text under the white name bar.

This here is a perfect example of what I mean. I erased the full names of users with shorter UNs completely as they're not needed. I only did a partial erase of UNs so that you can see the length and what happens when they post. I can guarentee that you can't read the first sentence that they've typed because of how it gets covered by the name bar.

Apparently hitting the enter key is against the rules to bypass this as apparently it's considered spamming. Why I don't know. However, it's unfortunate as no one can read their first sentence at all otherwise.

Would there be a chance that the SB Could be widened enough, please, so that names aren't forcing image icons within the white name bars to be pushed down to the next line resulting in hidden text posted by players in the SB? I'm not suggesting a large amount of widening, just enough so that long names can work properly in the SB :)

I remember had a wonderful pet profile, Chatterbox that displayed the shoutbox as a whole page.

Maybe something like that would work better than the current location on the Dashboard.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I don't use the shoutbox but I thought it was a sidebar widget, and widening it would widen the whole sidebar. My own idea for this problem could be that the font size for usernames was reduced. I don't know how the regular users would feel about that.

Actually, it's not the length of the name but the addition of that gear to indicate new posts that causes the overflow.

It's wide enough. I honestly think it's the font size overall on the whole site that is the problem. I actually view the site at 75% because everything just seems so huge. I think we need an option to change the font size of the whole site for us without having to reduce the magnification of everything else. Like I'd love to see my HA at 100% but the text at 80% or so.

The zoom you personally have on your browser affects how the flow is on the Shoutbox. If you zoom out a bit, it should fix this problem.

This. I'm not a shoutbox user, but I think it would be nice to have an alternate location for it, what doesn't mean the widget has to be discarded. One of the biggest turnoffs for me, disconsidering moderation issues, is how tiny it looks / how inconvenient for me it is to type in such a tiny box / read such tiny balloons when there's more than a short sentence or two in each :/

Customcss could take care of making the overall text smaller for you. :)

I don't personally use the shoutbox, but I do agree it is pretty darn small and as a result not as inviting to use.

However I thought the idea behind the shoutbox was to have a chat feature handy whereever you are on subeta so moving it to a location of its own would kind of go against that.

I have customCSS and it doesn't. Not since the whole site layout got update with new coding. Seems like the text size is the only thing that doesn't want to work lol

-edit- I take that back. I see what the problem was. I was using premade layout and they didn't have font-size in the side bar or anything ^^

For me, there are two problems with the width: the gear next to UNs, and the scroll bar.

As far as I can tell, the SB is the same width it's always been. However, there's a chunk of pixel space that is lost because of the scroll bar. I understand that the scroll bar is there to keep the SB from getting too long, but I'd rather a limit to the number of characters that you can put in an SB post, to keep it from getting too long, rather than the scroll bar.

This will help with the long UN+gear problem, but I honestly don't see what the point of the gear is in the first place, and I think it could easily be removed. The two of those combine, I think, will make the SB feel "wider" without actually affecting anything on the rest of the sidebar.

Maybe not wider, maybe they can make the area around the usernames transparent instead...Or something.

Couldn't they just drop the icons down to a new line for everyone, that way different lengths of usernames wouldn't cause stretching and it would already be accounted for?

TBH I always thought the shout box should be in a pop up of some sort or have its own page because it IS tedious to read and follow
