I think it would be neat to have a "Fantine's Kitchen" type of place where we could make our own foodstuff. The Gentech Lab is fun but meant for more mad science-y stuff, and having a place dedicated to using all the food and baking ingredients we have would be fun. Perhaps Fantine could charge a fee (sp sink!) for using her kitchen.

Some ideas:

++ + Fantine's oven = Beef Jerky

+++ Fantine's oven = Lemon-rosemary Chicken

++ Fantine's oven = Pepper Steak

+++ Fantine's stove = Chocolate-dipped Bananas

++ Fantine's stove = Plain Oatmeal

++++ + Fantine's oven + = Frosted Kanis Cookies

+++++ Fantine's oven = Frosted Strawberry Cake

Oops, didn't realize that existed, deleted!

Anyone else have ideas?

I think this would be nice, but I am not sure how practical it would be to add another are to combine items. The Gentech Lab is pretty well maintained, but the Alchove hardly gets updated.

Funny thing, I mentioned this a while ago and got my head bit off...guess they misunderstood the "make your own food" concept...:D But I'd LOVE the idea! However this would mean making new items...how about taking it a step forward and submit our own food items based on this idea?

...DAMN WILL BE GIVEN. PLEASE HOLD YOUR BREATH TILL FURTHER NOTICE!

i really like this idea. i think people may be concerned about the feasibility of upkeep.

maybe if Asmodeus rented Fantine his space once a week for food combos? then staff wouldn't have to come up with them quite so rapidly and the items would maintain a rarity?

its not like Fantine would have a problem with travelling to Darkside, i mean she's dating a zombie from the Underground...

It just means that we have to not only come up with combinations, but draw tons of new food items and keep up with it.

I love the idea of crafting / making your own items, it's just really a lot of upkeep for us. I think it'd be really fun to make a recipe type system (where instead of guessing, you can only make items if you've earned the recipe from an achievement / battle / site event) and update it sort of frequently.

Oh I love this....just not sure if I'd want it as a physical item you could sell, or strictly for you (especially from achievements). Could have a "recipe book" where you can only bake/cook from recipes that are in your book and if its an item, then you have add it to your book.

Oh yeah, it'd be like unlocked hair. You'd unlock a recipe and it'd go into your book, you wouldn't be able to sell that to other users. You'd be able to sell the item you could make, though ;).

while i have to say i really love the idea of unlocking recipes and crafting and whatnot, i worry that we'd just wind up with the ingredients for low-level recipes skyrocketting in price. if everyone needs a tomato for level one, they're probably not going to come cheap.

i mention this because i have played a game with a similar system in the past, and inflating cost of ingredients was a lingering problem.

Ermahgerd I would love this.

Maybe because I'm currently obsessing over Rune Factory, but this would be so much fun.

Here's a thought: require the fruits/veggies used in recipes to be grown in our personal gardens. It would give the gardens a purpose again.

Edit: Orrrr reading upthread I do also like the idea of a recipe book, even if there are no tangible items. It would still be cool either way. :3

...omg gardens.

I don't know how I feel about the whole item price thing, but I do like the idea of being able to "create" new foods / wearables / anything via interactive process.

If it's strictly for food, considering an "unlockable recipe" type of situation, I can imagine two situations:

  1. either the recipe will be rare, so there will be few people making it to sell. If you make 1000 of the thing to sell, you're kinda... cutting your own profit there? The more supply for the same level of demand, the lower the selling price, in theory.

  2. the recipe is common. Hopefully the ingredients will be common as well, but either way they should increase in price. However, if we're talking food... how many food items does a person need? How many players even feed their pet? If we're talking low rarity restockables, the amount of items getting into the market daily via main shops should be able to stabilize prices somewhat quickly, provided there isn't an insane demand (often observed in wearables)!

Idk I'm in need of a coffee right now but at least for food in special I don't see items skyrocketing. For wearables, depending on the type of wearable and situation (given my own suggestion of Alchemy dyes, heh), I could.

You make good points about common items and rarity and availability and how often people need/use items. Maybe if games like Decanter of Destructibility were tweaked (after the fact) to produce more of the hypothetically wanted/desirable items, that would get greater play too.

I have noticed that rarer items or often-quest-asked items have crazy resale value, but that most common food items are in the tank. This certainly could be a way to try to address that, although demand might become really high.

Maybe if this is implemented there shouldn't be any achievements or prizes for it, at least initially. That way people would try, have fun with it, and get some items in circulation before everyone goes nuts for achievements. Offering achievements for a brand new item-dependent activity would be like tossing a raw steak to a pack of starving wolves. xD

...there goes another game I hardly ever remember to play xD It would be really nice to see the Decanter get revamped to work "together" with Genetech / recipes / maybe even Alchemy crafting, by giving out useful things for those places, etc!

Yeah, I think they could start out by adding just a couple items on this system (following the idea of low rarity ingredients) and see how it goes out. I personally only need one of each food, some people might need more for TCs but then many others don't even bother with gourmet, so xD

I AGREE. That actually reminds me of the Wishing Shrub, I still think if there weren't achievements for granting wishes things wouldn't have gotten so out of hand with prices x_x

Later on, after people have gotten used to the feature and prices will be at least somewhat stable, something like Alchemy points could be introduced instead of achievements. The more you use the feature, the more points you get, and then those points could be used in something?? preferably some sort of "upgrading". For example, if you had to wait your recipe to cook for 1 hour, the more points you got, the less time you'd have to wait. Like, you became a better chef and now you know how to get things done in 30 min instead XD

....or maybe double Gourmet food points for cooked recipes eaten by your pet, or something.

Gourmet food points might be a little unfeasible and/or create the starving wolf scenario mentioned, but I like the upgrading idea! Do X number of easy recipes to unlock harder recipes, or shorten cooking time.

Even if this were all on "paper", with just recipes and no actual items, the upgrading idea could really work.
