Update: I ended up buying the Windwaker bundle.

Hello hello. c:

Would some Wii U owners mind telling me how they feel about the system? I’m thinking about buying one (specifically the Skylanders or Windwaker bundle) and I've been looking at some reviews online and intend to go to a store and test it, but I’d still appreciate more opinions.

If you leave it plugged (because I've read the battery is only a few hours) is is it prone to overheating? How is the controller? Any lag between the Wii U and TV? Graphic quality? Sound? Is it worth getting 32 GB over 8GB/deluxe over basic? Whatever you feel is important? Etc.

I've heard that the third party games aren't that stellar, but I am a big Nintendo fan and would primarily be interested in Hyrule Warriors, Windwaker, Mario Kart 8, and Skylanders. I also don't intend to use the eShop that often.

Thank you very much!

I'll try to answer your questions in order.

  1. My WiiU has never overheated before and I keep it plugged in almost all the time, even when i'm not playing.
  2. The controller that comes with it is a bit bulky because of the screen, but the screen also lets you play most games without the tv, so it's a trade off. You get used to it pretty fast. I did buy a Pro Controller, which is the normal sized one, but I mostly only use it for multi-player.
  3. I haven't noticed any lag.
  4. For graphics and sound. I really can't get technical and I don't have another current gen console to compare it to, but I think their both fine.
  5. Ok, here's the thing. You said your not going to use the Eshop often, but Nintendo is starting to get into DLC, and, for example, Mario Kart just had two dlc packs announced. Together they will add about 50% more content to the game. When I pre-ordered them, it said each was 1GB. Other than that, Nintendo has had promotions that give you games to download. They gave me a free Pikmin 3 download with Mario Kart 8, which is a bit less than 4GB. I'd buy the 32GB to be safe. That's the one I have.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my WiiU. It's a solid system.

We have one, I don't play it, but my partner does. He has never had a problem with it overheating. I think the graphics are excellent (compared to the Wii, lol).

I usually buy consoles with larger hard-drives, however we got an 8gb one as it was a Skylanders bundle for just over $200 NZD, where the 32GB one was $588 NZD...so I couldn't justify another $388 for another 24GB.
