Hello! I just recently started playing Magic and am wondering who else is playing / what decks you guys run. Id love to make some connections and hopefully someone will be able to use this thread to the same affect.
I play with a Rakdos Deck right now with a playset of ragmutts But, as my official guild is Gruul, I'm working on a red/green as well.
Gatecrash is my favorite set and ,of course, ragemutts are My favorite return to ravnica creatures.
Talk about your decks, Play sets, favorite cards, expansions and your Guilds!!
I used to play magic growing up. I have a very old red deck and a blue one. I kind of stopped halfway through high school because everyone else kind of stopped, as well. I have one of the really basic games on my computer. Just the Plainswalker one with premade decks. Nothing competitive and costly. I'd like to get back into it, but I really don't know anyone who plays in real life and i'd rather have the physical cards. Plus, it's a bit of a costly hobby. I just transferred to a new school, so maybe they'll have a club for it. If so, i'd probably start up again.
I wish i had joined my high schools magic club :( Its allot more fun with psychical cards i agree.
i just find most magic players at my local card shop to be really...high and mighty. they dont really help (except the owner). the local players ae so tight knit i get left out...cant learn if no one will play you more than once.
I'm just a casual magic player, and I only play with a small group of friends (mostly because I don't know what's illegal in tournaments, etc) I have a green/black deck. Green is mostly used for tokens, while black is used to destroy creatures while I'm gathering my tokens. I've always wanted a Blue deck, but every time I've made one it's been really bad and horrible.
You called? Haha, I love this game. Love it. Granted, I'm terrified of tournaments, terrified of failing, and terrified of anyone making fun of my shitty decks. So, I play casually, among friends and those who won't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing things. The "High and Mighty" type that you described, pretty much. They really don't make it easy for newbies to enjoy the game and learn to play. It's awful when you run into people like that in anything, but they always exist, no matter what.
As for colors, you can disregard most of them. Red, White, Blue, Green... they don't matter, trust me. There is only one color to play, and that is black.
Ok, not really. It's my favorite color to play, though. Honestly, I love Green/White (tokens), Black/White (Orzhov), mono-black discard, and mono-white humans/spirits. Green Elves is something I'm working on and Blue/Green Simic is another project of mine. I love Liliana Vess to death (how nerdy would you consider me if I told you I was making a fan-pet?), though I've yet to use her in a deck. >_< Maybe when I re-build my mono-black discard thingie...
In any case, ignore the high and mighty types. They can shove it. Magic is fun, it's a game, and if I was near you, I'd play! :D I need someone to get me back into the game more. I keep stopping because of school. There's only so much time in a day, and for me, building decks would take most of that time. So I have to hide my cards from myself and study. xD
I had another bad run in with ym Local shop. I went in and the owner was WORTHLESS. i asked for a single and he jsut slapped this HUGE box of mixxed uncommons and said 'look in there' it took me nearly 30 mins to find ONE card. He had card with diff languages mixed in too and none of them were organized in any way. it was just plain lazy service. you sit here ALL DAY and dont organize yous cards? And when i went in,people were playing..no one spoke to me, no one introduced themselves and because his friends were there- the owner was even MORE distracted/worthless. I heard bookstores do friday night magic somtimes- im sure other people who found thier local shops disappointing will be there. so I might ty one day. And ive never been in a tourney i dont want to look stupid either ;n; id love to play with people via webcam somone should make a website that randomly matches up ONLY magic players, like chatroulette but with more cards less penis.
My gruul deck is coming together nicely. It's a sacrifice/buff deck with a playset of wild beast masters. If i buff her up right before an attack, she transfers her power to each of my creatures for that phase. also let me know when you finish that fanpet !!!!
I never tried mono blue but my fiance has an AMAZING black deck with a blue splash. And i love blue/white decks.
i never played magic as a kid however my s.o. recently got back into it with his buddies and after watching them a bit, i started to get interested. i went to a couple local shops and since it'd be like a dollar for a bunch of uncommon cards, i sometimes chose ones i found aesthetically appealing, lol. for fun. then finally i got pestered into creating an actual deck so with a combined effort of me forcing every single wolf card possible to be in a deck and his effort of trying to make it viable.. yeah. i don't have to win to have fun, i just need a themed deck that entertains me (though i do win sometimes!!) i will admit it is rather hilarious when my (probably shitty) deck gets people flustered. anyway i guess i have a red/green wolf deck. i have just now started created a couple others on my own which i'm kinda proud of since i'm not competitive whatsoever and hadn't even heard of this game until a few months ago. still learning all the types of cards and stuff.
Alot of my friends play but I've never tried. How do you even get into it? :P
- i love themed decks !! all my decks have a central idea or 'story' it's just funner. My theme deck is vampires now, because magic has some of the best VAMPIRE DESIGNS SO OLDSSCHOOL!!! (sengir vampire is my fave) when you said wolves i thought of the russet wolves cuz i have like five of them :)
well my boyfriend taught me but honestly if you have a friendly card shop you can just stroll in and they might just GIVE you some cards and teach you. they allso might give you a copy on the rulebook. My boyfriennds local shop did all that for him when he first started. they gave him about fifteen cards and he paid a dollor for the others he wanted. Magic shops are usually super cool to new peope my shop not included- im starting to see my shop is a more vet friendly place, gotta earn your strpes with them for respect yknow? also magic has a online version you can download, i think you gotta pay for most aspects of it?
I might look into it :) thanks dear. It seems really entertaining to me.
Wow, haven't really met anyone on-line that plays Magic :P I run a vampire deck, pretty basic and low-cost but deals some decent damage ^^ Mind you though, I haven't played in quite a while though, I'm currently hooked on another card game called Vanguard, maybe you should check it out? It's a real bummer that the shop owner's a jerk, my local shop owner is lovely, he taught me and my bf how to play after I spotted his Vanguard folder. I asked him if I could take a peek, seeing as I'd never seen them before, and he let me have a good look through it, Now almost everyone that comes to the shop plays :3 They do FNM every Friday, and it's always good to tag along even if you are a newbie. The "high and mightys" can go stick it, because I'm sure they weren't born knowing how to play, eh? But yeah, everyone around my part is lovely and we don't really have any of those "high and mighty" types, the veterans are always more than happy to help you out, or kindly point out a mistake you've made without making you feel worthless :)
