In this topic, we discuss what we think the top 5 best modification crystals for weapons are. Reasoning behind your choices is not necessary, but you can feel free to leave your reasoning as to why you put it in that position. Just keep in mind that in this poll, you can answer with any mods, even parched and singed.
Anyway, here are mine:
Stealing strategies are not always reliable, but against some opponents, they can be a way of life. A good example of this would be Erupting Forj, where her scroll blocking 10 water and all of every other icon type combined with her magma armors healing her for 500~800 each can make the battle turn into a big tug of war in her favor. For this, stealing mods are a popular strategy against her. Stealing strategies can also be good for working your way up the Ice King and Saggitarius high score tables.
Water is probably my favorite icon type. Aside from Prodigy and Fish Breath Jacques, not too many challengers block significant amounts of water. Not only that, but water icons are needed to damage Forj Matriarch in all three of her forms. Not only that, but with an abundance of weapons that deal high amounts of water icons such as Prodigy Staff, Trident of the Banished One (both variations), and Pirate Cutlass, making them easy to stack.
There aren't too many reliable ways to prevent stealing. In fact, perhaps the most reliable way is the blessing of natural armor coming from these modification crystals, especially when you fully deck out a weapon with them. Each crystal has a 10% chance of activating a blessing that blocks 2 of every icon in addition to protecting against both stealing AND freezing and lasts for 3 rounds, so there is a chance that you can get the blessing to activate again before it expires with these things.
Now here we have the strongest offensive mod in the game. It adds 3 magma and 2 fire icons to your attack per each crystal. Now if that didn't satisfy you, each crystal also has an 8% chance of activating a curse that does 8 icons and lasts for 5 rounds. Great for finishing off opponents fast.
Here it is: the one mod to rule them all! This mod is slightly weaker than the singed baguette crystal in that it adds 2 water and 2 fire icons to you attack, but the offense is still nothing to scoff at. In fact, the 2 water icons over the 3 magma icons might actually make this a better offensive mod against select challengers since there seems to be more challengers that block magma (ex.: Ice King, Saggi, Mama Mush) than there are that block water. The offense is great, but an extra effect lies in the mod: the 10% chance of activating a 5 turn blessing that prevents freezing per each crystal. While this mod's blessing doesn't prevent stealing like the blessing of natural armor tear does, it does a better job at protecting against freezing in that the blessing lasts for 5 rounds instead of 3. Not to mention that there are more challengers that freeze than there are that steal. With weapons fully decked out with this thing, you could almost go an entire battle without worrying about getting frozen.

Blessing of Natural Armor Tear Crystal - stacked - absolutely vital for a lot of challengers to survive their frequent freezing attacks. Same act. rate as Parched Baguette, lasts shorter but prevents stealing, too - and is a lot cheaper, of course; I would rather be inclined to swap out a 3 Medium token mod if necessary, than a restricted available amount of expensive challenger loot.
Freezing Baguettes - stacked & combined with freezing scrolls. Even though chances have been reduced still kick in at a good rate I feel. Often vital, more often helpful to speed up things ;) (can't say the Stealing Baguette rate can compare the slightest with it, not with me, anyway)
Critical Strike Tear Crystal - if you need or want to finish your opponent off fast. Makes attack baguettes obsolete, esp. since the CS are universal soldiers ;)

Parched Baguette Crystal - last longer against freeze only happy challengers than Blessing of Natural Armor
Keeps from getting frozen for 5 rounds - nice against General Error and Prodigy's Quarks. Seems to activate for me more than the blessing crystals, although I think the chances are supposed to be about the same.
2x the damage for one turn. The faster you kill the opponent the less you need to defend yourself. If you do a crit hit on the same turn that's 4x damage for that turn. Wyrngear, Mechalag, FB, etc can be killed in one turn at times. Huge time saver for BQs.
Immune from stealing and freezing for 3 turns. Great against General Error and a few seasonal opponents that both steal and freeze. If I recall correctly one of the Saheric opponent was a bit of a klepto.
Good against Saggi for a lower level pet. If he heals all your damage, just turtle and steal his shit.
Forj's weakness. Stack up on these to bring them down quicker.
My favorite mod is easily the . The rest are a toss up for me depending on the challenger, but I do like the and . I like to use the icon dealing baguettes, but I find they're not much good without stacking, so I rarely use them.
I only use Parched Baguette, Singed Baguette, Blessing of Natural armor Crystal, and Critical Strike crystals for the most part. For lower tier weapons I might add a baguette of an icon they already deal to stack so I don't waste singed.
I am not a fan of steal/freeze mods but I do consider using them if I am trying to beat a challenger before the pet is ready.
