SO I'm going to buy a playstation 3 this week, probably this deal is what I'm looking at. I have a few questions though that I'm kind of concerned about:
1.) I'm wondering, how much GB do I actually need? I've stuck with Nintendo my entire life and so this 250GB and 500GB and everything in between is kind of confusing 2.) Is the deal I linked to actually a good price? I'm not really interested in the games as much as I am just getting the system for a decent price and that one I think was one of the better ones I found. 3.) Are there accessories or cables or anything I'm going to need to buy with my PS3? I do have WiFi btw. 4.) Any general advice would be wonderful, I feel really out of the loop and I just don't want to make a bad decision on something so expensive u-u
How much space you need depends on how many games you plan to have and if you download a lot. Each game probably installs between several MB and GB of data. A few hundred GB should be loads. You can always buy a cheap external harddrive if you find yourself lacking in space. I just tend to delete old game data (not the saves...!) of games I don't play much if I need more room.
I can't really comment on the deal, as I haven't compared prices in ages and don't know how they differ between here and the US. All my PS3s (uh, two of them lol) have been second hand.
It should come with everything you already need. The usual cables, one controller and a cable for it, etc. I don't know if they include HDMI cables nowadays, but they didn't used to - so you might need one of those.
Also if you get one, look online for free Playstation plus month-long-trial codes. They give em out all the time for nothing. You get a load of free games, with the catch that you can only play them if you have a PS+ account. The codes tend to be for 'first time users', so you can only use them if you've never had PS+ before on that particular account. However you can make multiple PSN accounts for a single PS3 system...

Thank you!! That was very helpful, seriously :) I think I might end up just getting the 250gb bundle since for some reason the bundles in general seem to be cheaper than just buying a regular console ?___? Going the refurbished route intrigued me but I'm super scared that I'll get a fuck-up and then I'll really be screwed. Have you ever had any bad experiences with used PS3s?
I'm not sure if I'll bother with PS+. Is it really worth it? I feel like I'll probably be content with the games that I buy myself. Unless there's some other really great features that come along with PS+ I don't really see myself using it.
Have you considered the next-gen systems coming out at the end of this year and maybe waiting for the PS4 instead?
Well I kind of decided to wait until the last minute to get a PS3 because now there's a huge variety of games plus everything is a lot cheaper. I don't really care about new game releases or having improved hardware/features or anything because I really think PS3 will be more than entertaining for me for a long time lol.
No problem! :> Yeah, I don't really get the bundle pricing either haha.
Well my fist PS3 was a second-hand fatty that was made around launch time, which eventually yellow-lighted (i.e. a hardware failure) after 5 or so years. Which wasn't toooo bad, because it was a known problem with that particular model, so it was really only a matter of time. I've still got my second one going strong, which is a slim I bought second-hand a year or so ago. I was kinda worried about potential problems too, but it came with a year warranty. Would have preferred new, but money $_$
Without the trial I don't know if it's worth it... but if they have a game up for download that you want, it's sometimes cheaper to get PS+ for a month than to buy the game. Only worth it if you can complete it in that month though ;) There are a few minor features, but nothing that great. They let you have some cloud storage space for saving games, but that's about it.

Get the slim, not a fat one or superslim! I'd suggest getting a HDMI cable too, instead of using the scart lead. Getting PS+ would help too, you get cloud storage, automatic updates and a bunch of free games and discounts for games. As for size I'd recommend 320GB, it might seem like a lot but it's always better to have more space than not enough :) I work in a game/electronics store so if you have any other questions you're free to ask!
I actually already bought a ps3 on monday but that was still helpful, thank you! I don't have a HDTV yet(I ordered one a few days ago) but I could have sworn my ps3 came with an hdmi cable, apparently not though since I can't find one anywhere. After I started playing Skyrim I knew I was going to need a HDTV because stuff at the bottom was being cut off and I could barely read any of the dialogue or symbols lmao. Do you have any recommendations of cheap hdmi cables? Also I feel like this is a no brainer but they're all the same, right? Like I can just use any old hdmi cable?
Mine ended up being 250gb but I think it's enough for me!! After going over everything I doubt I'll ever use 250gb. I'm still not sold into getting PS+ yet but I haven't even really gone over everything my ps3 is capable of yet, so maybe I will eventually.
Woops, sorry, I didn't check the date you posted the thread! Yeah they never come with a HDMI unfortunately :/ but Amazon always has cheap ones! And they're pretty reliable. As for length it'll be up to you. If you have a HDTV, then I'd recommend a high speed HDMI, they're meant for 1080p and 3D stuff, whereas regular HDMI's are more for 720p. Otherwise yeah, as long as it's HDMI to HDMI you're all good :)
Ah ok, awesome, thanks! Sorry if these are really dumb questions but I really have no idea lol. Not knowing this stuff makes me feel really old 😊
Just a heads up with the tv, did you already do the seven second beep thing with your ps3 to make it configure to the right size of your tv? I had an issue on my older TV in my dorm with that until I found out that you need to basically hold down the power button until it does a second beep--he first beep being the one that the ps3 makes when you turn it on--and then just wait until the ps3 configures to your TV size. It'll pop up with a thing saying "can you read this" or something.
I've been using my new tv for a little bit now and I think it's configured correctly? I didn't do anything(it seemed to just configure automatically) but I checked the settings and the size matches up fine and everything. I haven't noticed any weird proportions or funkyness so I think it's working fine; thanks though :)
Ooh, you ended up buying a new tv after all then. Yeah, I think it must do it automatically with the newer stuff but my old dorm TV needed to be manually adjusted with the beep thing so I was just checkin' if that was your problem. That's good you got it working fine then.
