I was sorting through my trades today and thought of this cheesy thing of having a part of your trades set aside for private viewing and another section for public viewing... and so on.

This would be like the Vault system, but instead of categorical ... categories. Here's the trade so called selection lists. You have a set of trades that you want only a certain group of people to see, so they don't get lost in the myriad of other trades you may have listed.

So say you want selected trades for a certain selection of users for certain trade set up reasons... Tell me if I'm losing you... I may have to explain further, or maybe you can figure out what I'm saying in my whole inane babble...

1. for your cw ping group

2. for general art ping groups

3. junk trades for payments of art

4. junk trades for payments of cw's either before or after the cw has been approved - issues like: a. gonna be out of town and want to pay now b. would like to pay now in the event you won't have enough csc at the time of pick up

5. actual cw's in trades for buyers to pick up (this can merge with also, since they kinda go hand in hand)

6. general trades asking for sp/csc/wl items

7. private trades for certain ping groups you have (and this is a multi-purpose category also)

8. certain trades you only want your buddy list to see, whether they are in your non favorite or favorite group

oh there's a lot of potential here, but then again it could be catastrophic with load problems, massive coding for coders, and introducing a whole new trading system. This can be beta tested? I mean if staff were ever to adapt to a certain concept of this idea, or maybe like this concept I'm laying out, or just a flat out big ugly NO THANKS. I just want to throw this idea out here and see what will be tossed around.

I can see how this could be useful, but I really don't find it necessary. "Reserved for xxxxxxx" seems plenty good enough for me, rather than having to find which category of trades you want and then what happens if something ends up in the wrong category? Then (IF you notice) you've got to cancel the trade and set it all up again in the right category and hope you don't misclick. It just seems like a lot of hassle (for staff to implement it as well as users to use the system) than it's worth.

Isn't that why there are trade descriptions, as well as the ability to take the lot number and tell someone exactly which trade to offer on?

I suppose the ability to separate r200 items from everything else would be nice when browsing trade lots, but that's the only benefit I see from this.

I see where you're coming from. It would cause a lot of problems, but if the staff were EVER to transform the trading system, which I believe they are with the whole site revamp, but they could take this idea "concept" and use parts of it... a rendition of sorts. :)

This sums it up for me, although I'm legitimately lost from that post. Can you cut out all of the parts about vomiting, pity parties and thick skin please?

they were mere statements of the "new me" - just to confirm. But I guess if I did leave that info in there, it kinda ruins the idea of just DOING it, rather than mentioning it. Actions speak louder than words... I'll remove. Thanks. :)

I'd enjoy a way to direct a specific user to a trade actually. Like being able to type the user it's for and then having a tab under trades that listed all the trades 'for you'. Sometimes when I'm sticking people or buying food in bulk I have to go through 5 trades and through the search feature (since they weren't recent enough to just click recent) and that can be annoying.

Yeah. I don't necessarily think it should be group based or anything (because from having ran an art shop or two I know that not every commissioner comes from your ping group) but just to give it to a person, the one who is going to need to pay/offer on the trade would make life so much easier. It also wouldn't take more work for the person setting up trade than typing out 'reserved for ____' or just the username so I don't see how it would be a problem on either end.

I don't think this is necessary. Just having "Reserved for Adventurer, [group], etc." in the description is good enough.
