Best Programs for Laptops? And Best addons for Fir

I just bought a new Laptop and I'm wondering what addons are best for Firefox and what programs you would recommend to me to use for it? Could you tell me the best programs to use? Please? I don't want to be stuck with a virus or something.
For addons I would definitely recommend NoScript. It stops scripts running on sites, unless you allow them to, which is helpful if you stumble across a site running malicious scripts.
The catch is that it stops ALL scripts running, and you will have to allow various sites in order for them to work properly. In some cases this can be a bit of a trail and error thing, as you may have to allow several sites to run for just one page to work properly. It's not to hard to learn though, and they have a support forum if you need help with anything. :) It's definitely worth getting though.
If you use Facebook, I recommend SocialFixer, which has a lot of useful tools to make the site easier to use. Fixes several unpopular changes, if you want it to. Doesn't remove Timeline, but gives you some customisation options to make it more bearable.
For customising the look of Firefox, check out Personas. Lots of skins to choose from, and you can also create your own.
As for programs, if it's viruses you're worried about there are some good free ones around. Avast! is a good one, and there is also Microsoft Security Essentials. I also recommend Malwarebytes.

For Firefox addons, definitely AdBlock Plus. It cuts out like 90% of the ads that clutter up webpages.
I also like Audacity.
For Firefox, I find MultiLinks to be really useful; it lets you open up multiple links at the same time by clicking and dragging with the right mouse button. I also have "Add to Search Bar", which allows me to add the search features of various sites to the browser's built-in search bar; it makes doing quests on Subeta much easier.
