Mostly you will need to train, but there are some opponents that an be beat with an untrained pet ^__^ There's a LOT of useful user-made guides on the Battle forums that can help you find the weapons you need etc. :)

The top of the board has a sticky that lists most of the guides ^__^

I see, will I get anything out of battling?

Yes, for the first 10 wins, opponents 'drop' item, and usually the 5th is something special not found elsewhere on the site c:

When your pet is still untrained, the items won't be very rare, but as you train up, some of the items are worth a lot c:

Oh that's cool! So I won't get anything after the 1st 10 wins?

You'll also randomly get battle tokens, which can also be used in the battle shop. Some of the items are worth a bit of sP, or useful for battle c: Mainly though, people go for the first 10 wins :D

Not particularly, you will be training for a long time if you're interested in battling, you never really stop training so c: You can start whenever you like!

Does a trained pet get better items than an untrained pet?

Yes, not because it has more stats, but because it can beat more opponents :)

I see, guess I'll start getting weapons. Is feeding my pet important?

Yes, if your pet is too hungry, it will take more damage c: You can just put your pet in the Resort at Veta Lake (it's the building over the water)
