so I have a few questions..I have no artistic talent whatsoever and was curious if its allowed to have someone draw the items for you and you release the items(whatever)
if you commission someone, what do they usually charge? would they expect an item in return? do they have to release the item instead? if they do, does the person having the item drawn get one?
that's all I can think of right this moment, will ask as I think of more(hope this is in the right area as well, please move if not)
Commission prices range differently between artists, so I can't give you a confirmation there. =P I think most artists want a copy of their item as well, but again, this varies per artist. If you commission an item, you can release it yourself, but again, this is something you'll have to discuss specific to your commissioner. I think most would prefer you sell it, yes. As for the last question, this depends on who you're commissioning as well. Some may include it in their price, or just ask that you pay for your slot instead of the commission / etc.
thanks that helps with some of the thoughts I did have on these..I've honestly not really been interested in CWs until I saw a certain studio's tribute items up in the cs shop lol. and then I noticed there was one movie of theirs seriously lacking any love. I want to try and find a good artist, but not end up being played(since I'd most likely be fronting the csc for it to get submitted) lol
I doubt you'll get /played/. Different artists will have different prices though. Based on their quality / the workload they already have / and the demand for their commissions / etc. I hope you find someone good though! C: Good luck!
thanks. I doubt it either, but its a fear of mine..I wish I could have them audition for me with rough sketches, but that'd be a waste of their time.
Well, you can always ask them if they've done something similar. C: And most artists are willing to work with you to make you happy. Make sure you have a very clear idea and can describe it well. If you're not sure, the artist might not produce what you want. So be as thorough with your request as possible so neither of you end up stressed out C:
yeah I know that's why i was kinda hoping to get one through a friend that's had some made..I know what I want(99%) but not sure what area or which one I should use..I wanna get something from 'Castle in the Sky' made..not sure if I wanna do a background, hat, necklace, or foreground item. if back ground the floating castle Laputa, if hat, the heroes goggles hat, if necklace the heroines pendant, if foreground(whichever) the robot guardian. was also thinking of doing the little squirrel fox from Nausicaa of the valley of the wind(not fully sure on that one, as that would mean another 5k or so csc lol)
I highly doubt you'll be 'played' by anyone, if someone takes on your commission then they likely want the item for themselves as well :). Many artists have established shops up so you can view their items, I suggest having a peek at the Released CWs list in Human Avatars where you can see everyone's style. A lot of commission prices are really high at the moment so I suggest making a thread in the Art forums first rather than CWs. You might get lucky and someone who is interested in your fandom will pick it up for slightly cheaper :). Most artists prefer you to distribute, though some might pass down rules such as two batches ever released.
