So. I'm trying to plan out a general story outline for NaNoWriMo, but I'm having difficulty with a plot. Originally, I had a crazy story involving a government spy, time travel, and a robot, but I realized after a few months that it was just slightly too cheesy. SO! I have a new plan! I shall give you the characters and the setting, as well as a few general plot ideas, and you help me develop it.

Please and thank you? Yes? OK!

Main character: David Theroux. He lives with his mother in an apartment in Queens, New York. He is twenty-six, and his father owns his own carpeting business and is wealthy. David is his father's illegitimate son with his mistress, basically. There's something wrong with David, but no one can quite figure it out. He may have one or more of the following disorders: Schizotypal, Schizoid, Borderline, Avoidant, Paranoia, Autism, or Asberger's. Basically, he's very odd and tends to say inappropriate things. For example, were someone to tell him "My mother's just died", he might respond "How odd. That's six deaths I've heard about in the past 43 days alone. What a season for deaths". Also, he's extremely impulsive. He'll do anything the second it hits his brain. He also is absolutely obsessed with birds, and has memorized EVERY species. He can be very self-sacrificing and loving, but it's hard to see.

Supporting character: Zoe Anderson. Zoe is quirky, bright, charismatic, loving, and intelligent. She loves bizarre things and bizarre people. She is twenty-one and goes to Columbia University. She is not judgmental and loves to do volunteer work, but can be annoying and talkative. Unbeknownst to David, Zoe is interning at a pysch ward. If he figures this out, it may hurt his feelings, because he may think that she only liked him as a case study.

Setting: New York, especially the antique shop in which David is the manager of and has been working in for 9 years. Zoe comes in often because she likes the merchandise and likes David genuinely, despite the fact that he never says what he's supposed to and almost always says something offensive.

PLOT: I don't really have a clue. I'm not even sure if I want David and Zoe to be love interests, or if I just want Zoe to reveal to the reader that David is a good and unique person despite his faults. It will be in third person, I think. Here are some ideas:

Zoe goes to study abroad and drags David with her, for one reason or another. He gets lost, gets hurt, whatever. Or maybe Zoe gets lost, gets hurt, whatever. One saves the other in a unique sort of way, yay.

Buuuut I need more than that. Halp? D:

Zoe leaves her purse by accident in Davids shop. David is interested in her but doesn't know her name so he search trough it and looks for some information. He finds out that she is going to study abroad (tickets for an airplane or something in her diary) and decides to go too. When he is abroad David doesn't have any money so he responds to an advertisement from someone who is looking for a person with the disorder David has to do some test. This way he gets involved with the university where Zoe studies but he still doesn't know that she is in that university and he also doesn't know what she's studying. it turns out that the person from the advertisement knows Zoe via via and when Zoe needs some one with this special disorder he says he knows David. Zoe en David meet and Zoe thinks it is fate that they meet here. They become sort of friends but Davis is not sure if Zoe only uses him for her study. Zoe and some people from the university are going to watch a movie at Zoe's house and she invites David. It turns out that Zoe had a beautiful bird (a rare parrot specie or an owl) which David likes very much. Zoe en David fall in love but they're both not sure about the other. Zoe thinks David only likes her bird and David thinks Zoe uses his as a study object.
