I've been meaning to do something about some weapons for a long time but only ever remember when there's battling going on in an event and I try and avoid buying then as I'm sure prices probably go up, but here I am again in the same situation.
Here is my pet's stat's: Level: 460 Health: 1148 / 1148 Strength: 1150 Defense: 1148 Speed: 1149 Intelligence: 108 Tier: 8
What I already own: Plus an assortment of others that I never see mentioned in advice posts so I won't bother listing them.
I have 845 Reading Drive points to spend which means I can get two of the following: or one
I can afford to buy a which I see mentioned a lot. I also can afford to buy the items required to make a which I see mentioned a lot. I'd like to beat the Recycle Beast to earn a instead of buying one.
Then there's mods. I currently have 50 easy, 34 medium, and 10 hard tokens to spend in the Battle Shop. I have no clue what to buy or what to attach them to.
I also haven't started using scrolls or potions yet. I have a Gate of Evil Scroll and a Telson Scroll stashed in my vault, no idea if they're any good for anything.
So, any advice please as to what I should get from the Reading Drive shop and/or Millionaire Centre would be great. If I were to get Cash Shop items I'd try and buy CSC now and wait for the Black Friday Sales, or find someone holding their own sale.
Sorry this post was so long winded but I tried to be thorough!
In my opinion, the best investments from the reading drive are the Reviver of the Lion and the Soma Tablets. The Reviver heals 90% once per battle, so, when combined with a Phoenix Quill, you'll have a lot more survivability. Soma Tablets are not unlike a Recycle Blaster (you can equip both, though). They also give you a random blessing and a curse and have a decent chance to freeze. As someone who has both the Truth Serum and the Soma Tablets, I use the Tablets so much more. Blasting is much more useful than stealing, imo, as you can very, very rarely use your opponent's weapons against them.
In terms of the Millionaire Centre, the Phoenix Quill is pretty much essential for all battlers. Definitely pick one up. In terms of the RIWoD, personally, I've never had one. I think it'd still be decent for you, but the fact it only deals 24 icons, with 2 mod slots, puts me off a little. The Purple Spider Squeaky Toy might be a good alternative for you - and you might be able to pick one up cheaper as lots have dropped from Nightlady this Morostide. :) It does 28 - 32 icons, has 3 mod slots, but has a slightly lower heal % and no chance to freeze.
I think one of the best weapons for t8 and t9 is the Rapier of Error. It has a great attack, four mod slots, a brilliant curse which always activates, a chance to freeze and(!) is relatively cheap. It would synergy well with the RIWoD as they both have a chance to freeze.
Finally, if you were to get anything from the cash shop, I'd say the Rainbow Vortex would have a place in your set. :) Has a chance to freeze and blocks all icons for one turn - it's like a Shinwa's Temple Shard with a chance to freeze. Keith has stated they won't be on sale, though, during Black Friday. Which is slightly sad. :(
Scrolls can be very useful. There are a lot of great ones out there though. I'd start out with the Terra Focujin, which is pretty much essential. It heals 10% each turn and deals 4 earth icons but quite expensive, ~20 million. You'll need to get 8AP to equip it, too - which is 128 intelligence. If you just equip that and use it every turn, you'll notice a big difference to your battling.
And mod slots! Mod slots are very important! This post is a good reference. In essence, I'd mod your healing weapon (RIWoD/Squeaky) with Parched Baguette Crystals - which set up a blessing to prevent freezing (becomes essential as challengers become harder) and your attacking weapon (Rapier) with Singed Baguette Crystals (more firepower, decent chance of a good curse). For everything else, I'd add Blessing of the Natural Armor (chance to activate blessing which prevents opponent from stealing and freezing).
Anyway, with or without the Vortex, I think you should be able to beat Recycle Beast five times with the above changes. Ideally, your set would look something like this: And sub the Acorn Bomb out for the Rainbow Vortex. I'd say the Acorn Bomb is still decent for you but does lose usefulness as time goes on. :) And I understand this set is going to require a little investment - but it should last you well. You could easily beat Wyrmgear, Recycle Beast and Carrion Lord (while its Morostide).
And I think that's all! If you've got any questions I don't mind helping. :P
edit: Forgot to say about the Terra Focujin; it would be cheaper to make one than to buy from shop search, but you can't make one with less than 20AP, or 320 intelligence. I don't mind helping you make one, though, if you were to supply ingredients. You'd need: Oval Scrying Mirror (1), Coutal Feather (3), Viper Fang (1), River Mud (8), Boar Tusk (6), Tiger Bones (5), Sands of Time (3)
Thank you for your detailed and informative response, I greatly appreciate it :)
I've purchased a Phoenix Quill since reading your response, I feel that it will be universal advice and the sooner I get one the better, so I can cross that off my list. I'll wait and see if I get any other advise before making any other major purchases. It's not that I don't trust your judgement but it's always good to have a few opinions :D
I do have questions about AP/intelligence. What does AP stand for? How do I increase it? I know you gain more intelligence by getting your pet to read books, but do all books increase intelligence or only certain ones? Is there any limits to how many books your pet can read in certain amounts of time or can you just go crazy? I have a lot of books saved as I hoard them for possible reading drives. As for the offer to help me make the Terra Focujin, thank you very much and I can see myself taking you up on that :) Shame I don't have more things in that list stashed, but I do have 17 Tiger Bones in my vault lol
It's okay. I understand precaution. And I think you made a wise choice - the Phoenix Quill is what I'd consider the staple for all battlers. :)
Just wanted to reaffirm my RD points position - I'm somebody who has a Malice, Truth Serum, Soma Tablets and One Ring. :P So I'm slightly jealous of the Reviver. The One Ring does heal up for 1000 HP, which is great around t7 and t8 but obviously loses value as you move up. I've been trying to replace mine with a Reviver for quite a while, but finding someone with 300 points for sale is very difficult these days. The Malice is great for t8, too, but I feel that, for everything it does, the Rapier does it slightly better. I did use my Malice all the way through t8 but I think the points are best spent elsewhere.
A lot of your questions about AP (and including which scrolls cost how much AP) are answered here: [topic not found]
For every 16 intelligence you get 1 AP. You can read as many books as you want in one batch, and as the topic states at the end of the FAQ, there are a few other ways to boost your int but they're all quite expensive. Actually, this topic is pretty good as a resource, too: [topic not found]
It lists how much each of the boosters helps your int - and the three books which boost your int by one more 1 point. Otherwise, all books boost your int by 1 point. :)
Again thanks for your very helpful response!
The link you provided looks like it'll be very informative (you linked the same one twice, was that on purpose?). I'll have a read of it tomorrow as it's currently 12.40am here and I'm about to head to bed. I'll also save going through my stash of books and going on a reading frenzy till some time after I wake up.
G'night, hope the rest of your day goes well for you :D
Just throwing in my two cents. I would recommend purchasing either two Revivers or a Reviver and a Soma as they provide the most "bang for your buck". Reviver and Soma are part of my default battle set (both T5 and T10). Soma is downright awesome! The curse, blessing, and chance to freeze are bad ass enough. Add to that, each time an opponent attacks with the blasted weapon (a pillbox that deals two icons), it's as if you're blocking half the opponent's attack that turn. One might consider this an extra "use" of Soma. Because of this, I personally prefer Soma over Serum. Serum may steal two weapons, but most opponents' weapons are designed to be harmful or at best useless to your pet. I personally still have and use a Malice (100 stats from T10), but only against Saggi. I don't think I would be beating him right now without it. That being said, you can't go wrong with Reviver. It scales from now until your pet caps out. Malice does not. Also, a quick shop search reveals that there are a couple Malice (600pts) priced at 50M. Meanwhile, I've recently sold two Revivers (300pts) for 65M each. If nothing else, you can buy two Revivers, sell one, buy a Malice from a user, and still have made a profit!
