I am a complete newbie to fighting. I have no idea where to even start! Thanks in advance!

also- what's up with the spells? what are they, how to get them, etc?

Most spells can be made in Sacred Lands, at the Secluded Shrine. Depending on how many books your active pet has read, you might not be able to see them all. They go up to level 5, and every time you get a certain number of AP (which you get 1 AP for every 16 books you read) you'll be able to see the next level.

Now for the set, that's gonna be a bit harder. How much sP are you looking to spend? We've got a revamp on the weapons coming "soon" so it's a little hard to recommend anything now.

Less than 100k is ideal to see if i even like it.

The thing with battling is that it's an investment. A good starter set is gonna cost you a lot more than 100k. Even one of the most basic recommended items, , is 3.4 mil.

You can check out this guide though and see if there's anything there that looks good. It actually looks like they have a few cheap ones. The Rainbow Star Rod and Shrine of Appollonia might be a good start.

Definitely check out http://subeta.net/forums/view/728613 for good weapons. Do a little research with the shop search on prices and you'll have a great beginner set in no time!

Welcome to battling! It can be one of the most fun and rewarding parts of the site, if you're willing to put a little effort into it.

First off, check out this forum, it has guides for pretty much anything. If you have questions, feel free to pop onto the main Battle Chat that's going on, people there are usually very friendly and willing to help.

That being said, there really isn't a whole lot right now that's really cheap. That might change once the revamp happens, but we don't know when that is. All we know is it's 'Soon', which probably means 'sometime before the end of the year?' What you'll want, though, is something that heals. Since you really don't want to spend a whole lot, I would try the Rreign Mace of Malice. It's not going to take you very far, but it'll work for now. Use either the Red Rreign Staff of Lore for a bit more healing, or get something with a little more attack. Vend at Blue Sky in Veta Lake to get really cheap books, and get Divine Denizhen Scroll or a Terra Focujin Scroll for spells. Definitely check out the Recommended Weapons Guide, as mentioned by Wh3r1, in the beginner's section

best advice buy as many books as you can then buy good spells they will take you the furthest in battle.

Morosbane is a very good beginner spell it takes 240 books to work it but it will heal 300 hp and hit 40 lighting taking a small pet through all easy medium and most hard battles minus non healer battle opponents
