Hello all, I happen to be new to Subeta. I managed to get a hang of things within the last... three hours, it seems (we're starting to hit four now), and I'm starting to enjoy it quite a bit, as I appear to be stuck to my computer. From what I've managed to gather, there's plenty of things to do outside the forum itself, which is exciting considering the mild issue that I'm often awake when others are asleep. I decided to introduce myself, though, in hopes of finding that the apparent masses of new people are matched by masses of friendly veterans, and I can maybe extend my experience outside of the usual antisocial norm.
I've got several nicknames, but here, I figure I'll go as my listed handle to make everything simple. I'm obviously fond of online games and spend a great deal of time on the computer (probably more than what's considered healthy, but who's here to judge anyway), and I'm a lightly obsessive compulsive story teller (don't ever ask me to tell you everything I can, because we'll never finish, ever). There's plenty more to tell about me, more than I can sum up in a few paragraphs - as most people happen to entail much more than a mild story - but I'd prefer to leave things at a light summary to start with.
Stumbling on this website by chance was probably an excellent start of things, seeing as how there's practically no end to the masses of quests and whatnot, and I've still yet to explore the entire world (every time I think I clicked on everything, I realize there's something I didn't think was clickable, but happens to be a whole new area). I'm quite friendly, or at least like to say so since I have no other friends present to vouch on my behalf. Feel free to start conversations, contact me, and chat about pretty much anything; I love most things by Marvel, MLP, Skyrim, Doctor Who, and tons of other things I'd rather not list for lack of space and time. I'll conclude this introduction with a title drop, since I'm quite fond of those when they're done tastefully, and sum up my initial reaction of this place in this sentence:
This is indeed a very lively website.
Hey there and welcome to Subeta! :)
Have a gif as well because everyone loves gifs...I hope.

Welcome! I'm really new myself, but it doesn't take very long to get into the swing of things. (: there are also some really useful guides for both quests and daily fun things that you can do.
That is a lovely gif, thanks. I feel happy inside. XD
Thank you very much for the welcome - a few others have posted on my profile, and I'm glad I wasn't just randomly noting another dead forum (it happens to me a lot, especially on roleplay forums). I think the site's making more and more sense as I go by, too, and I'm still shocked that it's easy enough to make SP. Keeping up with quests is a tad more difficult, but I'm sure that's something that gets easier as I get more comfortable with my surroundings. Also, I'll have to go through what's already a mess of a closet to decorate my avatar, since everyone else has awesome things going on!
Nice Alice in Wonderland theme, by the way! Albeit, it's a tad more crazed than the happy-go-lucky takes on it (I like the more macabre settings, anyway).
Very true - this place isn't anything like WoW where you're constantly "grinding" to level up, and it's not at all complicated like other sites. If anything, I feel like I just think to myself, "I want to save for this", and get a ton of stuff along the way that I didn't know I wanted. X3
The forums used to be more active a couple of years ago but therefore we had a lot more drama as well so I personally prefer how it is today. C:
It's great that you are already enjoying the site! As for the quests, are you using the Quests Widget in your Dashboard? In my opinion it makes questing a lot easier because it has all the links in one place.
Thank you as well for the compliment. ❤️ I'm currently like breathing my username, haha - the only thing I'm lacking is a user profile matching the theme but I hope I can fix that soon even though I love my current profile, too. XD
If it weren't for that quests widget, actually, I probably wouldn't have ever known that half of those quests even existed. It seems somewhat outdated, since the numbers aren't accurate for quests completed (or I need to level up or something). Either way, I love the customized sidebar - I can get rid of the things I consider "useless", that I'm often pestered with on other sites...
Ah, drama. I hate drama. It's ruined so much for me. So, so very much. Sounds like things are improving; quite often in my experience with other forums, there's a high peak with tons of members, and after a while, people get mad and filter out (because for some reason, people can't just get along or ignore the other), leaving the calmer sorts behind... hopefully.
I'm pretty sure we can figure out a user profile for you. I'm not experienced whatsoever with making profiles online, but I am an artist of sorts - need some improvement there, too, but if I can ever help out, let me know. I love collaborating with other artists, especially if it means I can learn some new tricks and expand on my works. Also, I often study horror and the like because I enjoy composing my own graphic novels and stories, and every now and then, there's a hidden charm in the multitudes of terrible "scary" movies that provides inspiration (that, or the movie/story was so bad, I'm able to write something I'd consider better).
Hah yeah, that's so true! I'm starting to plan out what colors and such I want my pets to be, I actually love this kind of stuff. And in the process of saving money you figure out a bunch more stuff and get to know the site better, so it's win-win (:
Quite true. Also, there's a whole bunch of decently named pets in the shelter with really cool colors; I'd have adopted several myself if it wasn't for the fact that I have to wait two weeks (so the little error message says). It almost makes me wonder what happened, since most people get a hold of a cool pet, and refuse to let them go. That, and the Saggitarius quest continues to elude me. Do I need to have millions of SP?
One way or another, I'll figure it out, and if it won't let me do it yet, it's probably because I really don't have enough SP to afford whatever he asks for. Same with those that claim I need maps ad all that. Also, really cool wing set you have!
Thank you! They were a gift from ^^ I haven't even checked out the shelter yet, haha. There are so many things I haven't even explored yet! I'm going to start working on putting together map pieces and getting access to restricted places in a little while. So far I've just been fooling around with games and quests and getting to know at least some of the more basic items and activities. (:
Sounds like Studio is awesome! Actually, most everyone here has been surprisingly nice - I can't lie, I'm waiting for the c-c-c-c-combo breaker, but I'll give everyone the benefit of a doubt at least until I have an official reason to doubt. Also, yay, maps. XD Brings me back to the old days where you gather up your things, look up at the "elder" of the group, and they're all "We're ready - but wait! First, we need a map." Actually, most things like that were from TV shows and the like, and I was partially raised by those - but who's judging anyway?
Yeah, everyone has been so welcoming so far! It's really nice. And I feel like this is a slightly older/more mature community than a lot of similar sites, which is awesome. It's also nice that it doesn't seem like too much of a time-suck. I mean, sure, you can spend hours a day on here, but if you're busy you can do some simple things in just a few minutes, which I really appreciate. I don't have enormous amounts of time to devote to games and such, but they're such a good stress relief for me.
Sounds good, I'll keep that in mind - thank you! I'm not an artist myself unless you count writing and even then I'm not a good example as I tend to hate my own work more than anything. Like, look my pet profiles! Most of them actually have a story on them (and without trying to brag I know there are people who adore them) but I got so ashamed and tired of my writings that I took nearly everything down some time ago. @
Horror movies are a hobby of mine, too by the way however I tend to prefer the more psychological or hilarious ones over too much gore and violence...what makes me an oddball in my family, even my mom watches stuff like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and I wouldn't even watch this movie if I would get paid for it.
Welcome =D
I like horror movies and I love b-horror movies :)
I do think when a horror movie is more atmosphere than gore it's better.
The mature community probably does have a great deal to do with how calm, comfortable, and welcoming the place is. Everyone I've met so far has been nothing but well mannered, giving, and excited to help. It's very encouraging for a new friend base to grow, and I really do enjoy looking at the pet shelters and not finding fifty variations of the same inappropriate words stamped together as meager attempts for pet names...
Silly you! Art doesn't only entail drawing. It includes writing, dancing, singing, speaking and all kinds of other crazy things most people don't realize are artistic designs. In truth, most everyone is an artist, they're just not aware of it because the mediums they're using aren't thought of as traditional. If you're a writer, you're most definitely an artist. I'll read your pet profiles and let you know what I think - and I might even write pet profiles for my own pets (I didn't know you could do that until now). Also, it's hard to overcome the need to destroy anything that isn't absolutely perfect in your mind - I went through years of my life where I drew things and threw them away, and now I have very little to show for the artistic skill I know I possess. It's best to keep it to reflect later on how you can improve, or what you've already improved on.
I do quite enjoy horror, but not really the gore. I prefer seeing what one's own mind can do, in the case of scenes that have the camera turn away (quite often what we do in our minds is far worse than anything that can be conceived on camera), as well as any psychological thriller that wakes up my mind. I have had a tendency to watch bad movies, though, just for the sake of watching bad movies - and I think to myself, "I will never do that in my stories, and even if I did, mine would be way better". It's almost like gathering up a sense of what will stay in your mind for the next several years, sending shivers up your spine thanks to the mere presence of the horror, and what sticks around in your mind like a stain on the wall that no amount of scrubbing seems to wipe off, and no amount of paint can make it look any less gross...
Long story short, we want "scary" and "mind bending", not "gross".
I watch some b-movies and they do get some things right but either the video quality and/or the rest of the film isn't as good.
Awaken the Dead has one of the best reasons for zombies I have seen (though I'm not that big of a zombie fan so that might not meant much).
The end of The Nameless was so damn awesome and creepy but the rest of the movie was a giant bore fest.
Funny enough, I haven't seen Nameless. I'll give it a chance and see what I think. As for zombies, I enjoy them, but only to a degree. People have tried redefining zombies so much that it's almost as bad as the vampire phenomenon. At this point, I usually stick to my own "monsters" when it comes to writing and whatnot, as a good dose of the unknown makes things difficult for people since even they can't find a solution to the problem despite the fact that they're viewing things from a third person perspective.
The Nameless. I believe it's originally Spanish and I watched it dubbed.
Are your monsters bits and pieces of other monsters (such as you get inspiration from a werewolf to make yours?) ?
Oh, thanks! I really do love movies from outside the US quite a bit, actually - so long as they follow my usual requirements for a "tasteful" movie. Sometimes when shows can depict other cultures accurately (without harping on it, and taking away from the actual story), it brings me more insight as to how other people from around the world may think and perceive different things. For example, specifically in the art of horror, American girls usually employ blood curling screams to elicit a terrified response from the viewers. Yet, in most Japanese films, even at the point of death, the victim be it male or female almost always goes quietly - not because they're willing themselves to die in silence, but because they think being quiet is what will save them. Very interesting little bits here and there that help me in character creation, too, since I believe that while I'm not necessarily racist, keeping an idea of what's generally taught in various cultures can expand on your palate for diversity.
Also, my monsters vary quite a bit. I have some that might be bits of other monsters, whereas other monsters I've developed based on research outside of the horror genre; I like making things terrifying when they're either not usually terrifying, or when they're plenty terrifying, and in fact horrifying, yet people make little notice of its existence. So, in a story wrote by me, you're likely to encounter the usual monsters larger than the human body, as well as tinier, skittering creatures, and creatures based solely on the power of pathogens or neurochemical input. Most importantly, be it a horror story, or fantasy - whatever your medium of choice is, imagination, creativity, and composure are some of the best and most powerful things you can have in your work. As, let's face it - we've seen too many zombies; so many zombies, in fact, that several movies attempt redefining what a zombie is so that we can still be terrorized - and it's not working very well.
The one zombie book that I recommend to non-zombie fans because the writing style is awesome (and reminds me of The War of the Worlds) is World War Z by Max Brooks. The movie, from what I know of it, is so far removed from the book that I don't feel any need to see it.
And your monsters sound interesting =D
Ah, yes, I've wanted to read that one for quite a while! I saw the movie, and while I'd say it wasn't really bad, it did seem very rushed and distant from the actual point it was trying to convey - a typical thing when transferring a story from one form of media to the next. I'll get some free time and read the book myself sometime so that I can enjoy it in its original, author intended design. There have been several times where I've wondered why it is that movies really do seem to butcher books, and the more I think about it, the more I start to understand that the tools required to make a book sound interesting are very, very different from what's used to make a movie sound interesting, and more often than not, converting a book into a movie will be composed in a manner to appease the general populace, rather than tribute its original form.
I do enjoy my monsters, not really because I feel that I've made something new (almost anything and everything ever done or thought of was done and thought of by someone else, so copyrights are all about who said "me" first), but because I spend way too much time on TV Tropes and Wikipedia wondering just how off the top I can make a situation, and how to avoid the usual cliches that terminate any sense of originality and interest in my subject. I'm not even really a well read person, I just happen to remember random, almost useless trivia about silly things that I can use to my advantage when writing a story based on whatever I want. It's a pretty empowering design, really.
Silly question, and I'm sure this place does, but does this place allow the posting of stories and the like so people can read them, or is it safe to link to other things that would have stories? For certain, I wouldn't want to break any rules by posting something that linked off forum - and despite numerous attempts to skim through the information, I can't seem to locate rules on it. I can be a tad dense at times...
