I can't beat Wyrmgear in battle quest, using the same weapons that I used to beat him outside of battle quests. Not to mention the fact that my pet has gone up in strength and defense stats. What's going on?

The battle might depend on what you steal or blast from him. I find that sometimes I sweep the floor with him, and sometimes he sweeps the floor with me. A bit of luck is involved when I battle him. If he keeps using those sonic booms, I won't get any damage on him, and eventually I'll lose.

It's just so weird because I have battle quested with him before and I have never lost. I have also beaten him 5 times in the regular arena where every time, he gets more difficult. I have battled with him just now for about 10 tries (possibly more), and can't seem to win. I'm not even coming close. It's like something about either him or my weapons has changed.

There is sometimes a luck factor in battling. Perhaps you are losing because you are getting critical hit a lot? I think you may just be having bad luck. With the way things are in battle, even if you have beaten a challenger 5x, you can still lose to them in BQs. For example, I have beaten General Error 5 times and have done that months ago but yet even today, after about 300+ more HP/attack/defense/speed and the addition of that psycho smasher scroll he drops, I still lose to him sometimes in BQs, especially when he gets critical hit happy with his Lt. Dead.

huh. I guess I must have always been really lucky with him until tonight, then. LOL I thought it was just that my pet had progressed to the skill where he was just doing really well. I guess not :(

You Won! You have defeated Wyrmgear 2 times!

His attacks do seem to do more damage than usual, but that might be because I never fought him past the first win. I don't know what's going on for you :/

I just fought him in BQs and I didn't notice a difference. His stats have been this way for over a year and his weaponry remains unchanged. I still think it is just bad luck with crits or something.

Today, I just increased my strength and defense again. Then I went on to beat him outside of BQ another 2 times. Went to beat him in BQ afterwards and couldn't...

I know it sounds weird, but he's not any harder in BQ's. It's just bad luck.

Since proof is needed, I'll run a few experiments to show that it hasn't changed. It might get a little lengthy and wordy, sorry.

First off, if you look here, you'll see that the stats stated on the BQ battle page and the default stats on the Battle Opponent Page are the same.

As for the actual testing, I picked a pet that, for some odd reason, I haven't paired against Wyrmgear yet. I'm using weapons that have set icons that don't vary any, and I TRIED waiting for turns where they were identical, but my stupid blessings/curses kept activating, and I didn't want to remove the mods for just this. However, I didn't think it to be too much of a problem, since the damage blocked/done was minimal, and normal for Talon's stat range.

I'm going to first fight a BQ with no wins with this pet, then fight a normal fight, and compare the two. As he hasn't scaled with wins, they should be the same. Then I'll get a few wins in, see what a normal fight looks like after he scaled a bit, then fight another BQ. The normal fight should show more damage dealt, and the BQ should still look like the first test.

Round One: No wins. (I forfeited the BQ match (completing it with another pet) and forfeited all regular battles until after this data was collected)

My Battle During a BQ

Battle Outside of a BQ

As you can see, no difference. His strength and defense is exactly the same in and out of BQ's.

Round Two: Six wins in.

Here's a Normal Battle after six wins. Notice he's doing over 1k damage?

EDIT: I couldn't seem to get another fight with him in BQ's today, but tomorrow, I'll see if he does the 800 area damage like my first fights with him (I'm sure he does), or the 1k+.

EDIT2: After THREE DAYS, I finally got him in BQ's again. He had 3k health, which indicated he was at his base stats, and his attack, similar to the ones in the screenies, did only 800-ish damage.
