So, I've decided to either get a Kindle Fire HD or a Nook HD.
They are about the same price, the Nook is higher but not by much. Currently I have a Sony Reader, but I'd like something that is Web Capable.
Now, I have some downloaded books on my computer, can I transfer those to either? I've heard opinions from friends on either. My boyfriend keeps saying the Kindle Fire, while a co-worker says the Nook.
Reasoning on the Kindle: Better screen/picture
Nook: Vast library to choose from. Amazon is more expensive to buy books than Barnes and Nobles. B&N has better selection.
So I don't know which to go with.
I can't offer any opinions on the Nook HD, but I have a Kindle Fire and I really like it. As for book files that you have, I think if they're the right file type you can upload them onto the kindle. My boyfriend uses a program called Calibre to put all of his non-amazon books on his. Also if you have amazon prime, you can borrow one book a month and they have some popular titles in their library. Unfortunately if you're a fast reader that one book is pretty measly :P But it has saved me from buying a couple of books. Amazon offers previews for a lot of their kindle books as well, which I'm not sure if B&N does, so you can see if you like the writing before purchasing.
Sorry this probably isn't too helpful since I don't have any experience with the Nook, I haven't found any problems with the Kindle though besides it being a little bit on the heavy side, but that's compared to the kindle touch which I previously had. Also I think I just have the normal screen one (my dad bought it for me), but the screen on there seems great to me so I assume the HD would look even better.
NOOK! XD I have a Nook Color so I can't say too much about the HD, but I love my nook. Even for something that's not HD, the picture is really beautiful, it's fast, easy to handle, you can lend most of the books in you library and I don't even think the other person has to have a nook to be able to receive them! They're transferred through gmail I believe. B&N also often has discounts on some books and a lot of the times normal books are cheaper than those in store. As for your current library. I can't remember the formats it takes, but it should be able to support most of them. And you can always turn them into PDF files if they don't. You can simply download them by plugging the nook into your computer and moving the files like you would for a flashdrive (that's how I did it when I made my first download). After that, the nooks have a "shop" feature where you can download any book or app directly to your nook (not sure if the Kindle or any other e-reader has that, but I don't really see why they wouldn't) from any wi-fi spot. I can't really say too much about the web capability. I mean, it's nice and fast and neat, but it's more or less like a giant smartphone browser to me and you have to be connected to a wi-fi spot to use it. And since brought up previews, then yes, B&N offer those too. Typically it gives you the first 30 or so pages free if you select a preview and then gives you the option to download it. As for weight, the Color weighs about as much as a small hardback book.
That's about all the expertise I can think to give. And again, this is coming from the owner of what is more or less now an obsolete Nook :) But good luck with deciding either way :D
