Does anyone know why Subeta constantly utilizes around 700MB in Google Chrome, yet only 1/10th that in IE? I never checked memory usage until recently, so I have no previous data to compare to. The site began loading slowly and lagging a lot. I'm running a full system scan just in case, but I'm open to any suggestions.
I don't get warnings nearly that high, but I do get the high memory usage warnings for Chrome on my computer, too. I hadn't connected it conclusively with Subeta, but that makes sense, since that's about 90% of what I do on this browser. I'll be watching this thread and hope somebody has some info :/
I get that constantly too lol. I always thought it was because I open like a gazillion Subeta tabs. XD
I think it's something with the site. I've tried Chrome, IE, and Firefox. Chrome's the worst, but they all experience some degree of lag when loading. For a temporary fix, you may want to switch to Firefox. It's using about twice as much memory as IE, but it seems to be the smoothest of the three currently. (I also open tons of tabs, but it was using that much with only having one page open.)
I've noticed Firefox does have much less of the "high memory usage", but it's also the browser that gives the most lag for the site (in my experience). A lot of the site's functionalities seem to be more glitchy and I run into many more snags with the site on Firefox. Chrome's more effective for Subeta in general, but with it comes a whole lot of memory usage, you're right.
I guess I retract my recommendation. Use what works best for you.
I get it even with only 1-2 tabs open, plus Facebook...I don't even have IE easily accessible on my computers any longer, and wouldn't go back to it if I did, because that browser just tends to frustrate me. And I switched to Chrome on this device for Subeta because it runs more smoothly, but this is actually the ONLY browser that's now causing me the high memory warning thing...
It's definitely something caused by Subeta even with just one or two tabs open - I can't replicate it on any other sites. For me, Subeta starts at about 60MB and progressively nears 1GB with each page loaded - having two tabs for quests really amplifies this. If you press Shift+Esc, you'll see what's running in Chrome and how much memory each is utilizing. You can kill the Subeta pages from this window, then simply refresh the page. You'll remain logged in and at the same page, but the memory will reset. It's a pain in the ass doing this every 5 minutes, but until Subeta fixes their ****, there's not much else to do.
Yeah, I keep getting alerts for high memory usage on FF as well. Around 250MB usually. I have my Firefox set to wipe everything when it closes, so I usually just do that and it'll be fine again for a while. I haven't been keeping a close eye on it, but I know the alerts only started popping up a week or two ago.
...I never noticed this and I've switched to chrome because FF started lagging a lot when I'm using subeta on it o_o
shift-escs
Oh wow, thats some high memory usage on subeta pages... maybe the instant alerts help by adding a lot to that consumption? :/ Anyway, it's great to know of the shift-esc "trick"!
Can you move this to the bug/problem forum? It seems to be a larger issue than just myself.
I have the same problem -- sometimes it will go in excess of 1GB.

i noticed that chrome occupies more space than my version of mozilla, as installation.. plus, in task manager chrome appears 3 times, even if i have only one chrome window and tab open.. mozilla appears only once. and i refer to the processes running, not the tasks. and it doesnt even have to be on subeta, any other site is the same.. i just didnt pay as much attention to the values, but i think each has about 6 figures....
That's odd. :o I can have up to 20 tabs of Subeta opened for 3 days, and my memory usage doesn't exceed 450 MB at total, but I think the dynamic favicons/instant event notifications may be adding to the bloat. Right now, I have ten tabs of Subeta, 9 of which I haven't closed in 2 days, and it's only using 160 MB, total.
What OS are you using? I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) with 3 GB RAM, but I'm not really sure that software/hardware specifications are the issue here.
Keith addressed the issue here: http://subeta.net/forums/view/854368
Everything's thumbs up now.
