I was just readin in bed, and all of the sudden, my cat bolted off the bed ad huddled by my closet. He was staring wide-eyed at something at the other side of the room, though nothing is there.
No noise came from outside, and I didn't move my legs or anything really suddenly.
I'm worried because he will. not. move. When I try and pick him up to cuddle him and calm him down (he's breathing very heavily), he cries out as if he's afraid. He's shaking and shedding like mad, and I have no idea what's wrong. Even when I pet him, he flinches and cries.
He's never acted this way before, and I'm fucked if I need to take him to the vet because my parents are out of town which means I have minimal funds, and I can't be certain if I can afford an emergency visit. I don't get paid until Thursday, and they cut 10 of my hours this week, which means I'll only have about $150 bucks (maybe more if stat. pay comes through this week), and I'm not sure if that will be enough to cover it.
Has anyone had this problem, or have any idea what it might be?
How long have you had him? Did you get him from a shelter? Maybe he heard a noise that reminded him of his past if you got him from the shelter, and he could have possibly been abused?
How long have you had him? Almost four years.
Did you get him from a shelter? Yes. He was about a month old.
Maybe he heard a noise that reminded him of his past if you got him from the shelter, and he could have possibly been abused? He wasn't abused. He was the runt, and his mother left him in the basement of an apartment building where they found him later sleeping inside a dryer. There was no noise in the house or outside other than the wind and a few birds. Nothing we don't hear every night.
Sometimes cats just wig out about things we can't necessarily see or hear. There might be a storm coming, he might have just hit himself with his tail, who knows. I wouldn't really worry about it as long as he's not still there in the morning.
This may sound wierd ,but are your windows open?
It's morning, and he's still doing it. I won't eat now, and he's all shakey and spooked at everything.
I tried closing all the windows, but there's no change. I checked to see if maybe something in the house had changed (because I know cats sometimes freak out when their environmen changes), but there's nothing.
He's just crouching on the rug crying and shaking. I started to wonder if maybe's he hurt himself somehowm because he woin't let me touch him.
I don't know, but I'm really worried.
Aw D; My cat was abandoned with a litter of kittens in the middle of a forest. She freaks out sometimes, but usually she calms down quickly.
Has he got a particular favourite item or toy of some kind? Maybe he'll calm down, my cat calms down when I give her a cat plushie with a toy bell.
Something must have well and truely scared the heck outta him if he's still like that. I'll be right back, I'll see if I can find anything out for you.
If I were you, get him to the vet as soon as possible. :/ I can't find anything else that might help.
Oh dear. Maybe he had a minor seizure? You need to take him to the vet asap.
this is gonna sound stupid, and I understand if you don't believe me, and I'm not sure I believe me, but... sometimes people have said that they believe their cats can see spirits, or something. im not gonna get into it, because... yeah. :p
but other than that. Does he have anything that scares him you just happen to having lying in the room? such as a vacuum, or a hairdryer? my cat can go crazy just by seeing things.

have some pie 🥧
He's getting worse. He's very sluggish now, and he won't eat. I'm taking him in first thing in the morning, and the vet said they'll take him in for testing and whatnot, and I can pay them anytime before the end of the month.
He's resting on m pillow now, but he's very fitfull and he's having trouble breathing. I'm staying up with him all night, and if he gets worse, I'll pull what little cash I do have and try to bring him into the 24 hour hospital.
