Here mang.

Aw yeah! This is totally happening, and I cannot be more excited, but the prospect of it working seems farfetched. Maybe, working partially or halfway? Whatever the case, I work at a genetics/bioinformatics lab so this is pretty cooool.

This scares the fuck out of me, to be honest.

We shouldn't be trying to reintroduce animals that haven't been part of the natural order of things for thousands of years. We don't really know what the hell we're doing when it comes to cloning regular animals, let alone giant extinct animals via gestation in a living species. We don't know what kinds of other things we may resurrect in the process either.

Also: Dr. Hwang Woo-suk. That's not exactly a good sign.

(And I know the liklihood of this ever getting off the ground is pretty much nil, but the idea behind it still concerns me)

Ahh, super exciting. I hope the elephant that carries the eggs will be okay though.

I'm pretty sure I've heard about people trying to clone a mammoth for years and years now. Hope they can finally do it I suppose, though the idea of cloning to bring back creatures of the deep has always been a little sketchy to me

They tried to clone an ox gaur and it died some days later. It's not even extinct, just endangered. So a mammoth... useless and unlikely. gallic shrugs

Well yeah, this. This definitely tampers with nature to hugeee degrees, but what it signifies in genetics as an advancement is pretty great and amazing (scary, too, I'll admit). Of course, if it succeeds, which is extremely minute. I'm sure they could splice some sort of gene, MAYBE, into the current elephant, although that makes me think it would do more harm than good. I mean, we've implemented jellyfish genes into mice/rats before and that was complicated but it HAS been done. P:

Woolly mammoths and dinosaurs definitely have been an interest of mine ever since I was a little kid, but I know they definitely do not belong in the current world we live in.

My first thought was "YAY MAMMOTH" and then "but why?"

There's no reason to clone the woolly mammoth. It died out due to nature things like climate change and stuff. If we're cloning anything let's work on extinct species that are that way due to human stupidity and endangered species.

So they're basically going to make a Mamphant? Awesome a hairy elephant.
