Oh boy was it fun...
They put me under and well, I don't even remember waking up. The first thing I remember is being lifted into a sitting position by my shoulders and I began to vomit. I continued to do this for another 4 hours after waking up. I couldn't use the gauze to clot it because the gauze made me puke, and everytime I puked I'd reopen my fresh sealed wounds. I spent the first 2 days sleeping after I stopped puking.
By day 5 I went back for a follow up, and they pulled the stitches out, turns out the stitches are actually in your cheek not your gums. So now I have holes on the instead of my cheek that are slowly turning into some pretty messed up looking scars. I was still in a ton of pain by day 5 so they packed my holes with cloves, which really helped with the pain, but they were a BITCH to get out. I was supposed to go back on day 7 and have the cloves removed but there was a snowstorm and pretty much no body did anything that day. I spent a good hour and a half fishing out the cloves that night equipped with my oral syringe and a dental pick (DO NOT DO THIS, IT'S SOOOO HORRIBLY UNSAFE). and I learned how gross it can really feel in there. Yeah... You DON'T want to stick sharp objects in holes guys.
So here, I am on day... erm 10? not doing too bad, The pain I've got now is from my teeth shifting NO ONE TOLD ME THAT WOULD HAPPEN. I have fairly straight and well spaced teeth, so I might end up with a gap after which scares the fuck out of me.
But all in all aside from things that they claim are normal.. I'm doing just fine.
I knew you were interested in seeing how it went :)
- Oh my gosh! Sounds like an ordeal. I think I will stick with mine swelling up now and again :O
Glad you are feeling better though.
x
See now, I thought and said the same thing. Those first 5 days during that point in time I kept saying it's not worth it, this is horrible it sucks. Now that they are gone, I am so relieved. I don't know for sure if I will get a gap, but it's possible.
I don't know if yours swelling gives you infections and abscesses like mine did, but if you suffer the same fate while keeping them, you might agree that getting them out is so much better <3
- Oh wow no I can see why you got them out!
I have not had infection or abscesses (touch wood) but if I did I can see why it would be worth removing them!
I get swelling to the point where it is hard to eat but its SO rare and only lasts a few weeks so...
oh wow scared now xD
ANYWAY! Dont worry about gaps in teeth, well worth it to be rid of the pain! I had my tonsils removed and I threw up blood for days! Was so worth it though.
Hehe, See! We are proof of that "No pain, No gain" saying xD
WELL THANKS FOR THAT HORROR STORY D: But that's terrible, oh my gosh. My wisdom teeth are coming in right now, and they were infected and nasty. But I have a consultation this week on how I'm going to get them out. I have this weird thing and I don't really tolerate anaesthetic well, so I either have to get them out in the hospital or with only local freezing :x I'm actually like scared of teeth (seriously), and puking so I'm not looking forwards to it. At least its over for you now, right? :')

That was my first time ever with Anaesthetic, appreantly my reaction is normal for people that can't tolerate it. So maybe I just won't use it again xD I wouldn't be able to be frozen for it, I'd have a panic attack. I fear for you =x but if they are only coming in, you should be ok. Mine has already breached and kept trying to move in and out =x which caused the infections. But yea, I'm so very happy they are gone :P
Well I guess you learned from it then? :P I suppose it's better finding out with a kinda minor surgery instead of having something really bad happening and having to have anaesthetic without knowing how you'd react. Yay positivity? :') I'm not quite sure what I'll have to do, but I hope they're fine, but I guess I'll find that out this week.

Good to hear you're doing ok! And I wouldn't worry too much, your teeth should only shift around a little bit - mostly in places where they were tightly pressed together. When I had mine cut out, my teeth moved a tiny bit but not enough to cause any gaps, (and I still have a couple places where they are snug against each other) though I suppose it also depends on the individual.
When I had mine taken out the only problem I had was the stuff they injected into me so I'd be out.... they used a little too much and I was sensitive to it so I was really loopy for longer than I should have been. I also had a really good orthodontist work on me so there wasn't a ton of bleeding, and I'm really grateful for that! :)
Anyway I hope your recovery goes well and without any hitches!
The holes sounds soo gross ;_; I'm glad you survived though! I'm hoping to get a dentist appointement on friday and hell I'm scared xD
It'll be fine <3 I have faith yours will end up in the end as good as mine did. It's really not /that/ bad xD
I'm sure he's going to complain. And I'm SURE that I'll have to get at least one teeth pulled out..
Ooh, sounds like you had it bad. I didn't know that people had to get stitches when they got their wisdom teeth out...I sure didn't...they didn't put me to sleep either. Just the same amount of stuff they use when they fix a cavity or something.
I hope you feel better in the coming days though. EAT LOTS OF ICE CREAM and stay tough! :3
Good to see you're doing better and you got through it okay. Much better than getting recurrent infections and abscesses.
A lot of the horror stories come from one of two things:
I had all four of mine taken out under general anaesthetic by an orofacial surgeon and I had next to no pain at all. Went in at 8am, got discharged home at about 11am and went grocery shopping at 6pm. The only thing I really needed to take was anti-inflammatories for a day or so to help deal with the fact that I looked like I'd been clocked on the right hand side of my jaw.
Otherwise I'd say it wasn't painful so much as it was mildly uncomfortable.
As far as I know only people that they actually have to work to get them out need stitches, You are the first person I've heard that didn't have them actually lol.
I take it you had yours in a hospital? mine was just an oral surgeons office and they kicked me out about an hour after I woke up. They were worried about me but couldn't keep me there. I'm so happy I haven't got/don't have an infection after how many I had before I got them out.
Nope, mine was done out of the orofacial surgeon's suite. And I am only assuming that it was 11am, because I get quite groggy after anaesthetics. Not sick, just really knocks me out.
The importance is in hygiene. Keeping the wounds clean is important. A lot of people get lazy.
