feral kittens. I hate people. I really, really hate people. It's understandable sometimes that animals get euthanized, but this is fucking sick.

There's a petition at the bottom of this page for those interested.

He's a sociopath, he enjoys inflicting pain on others. As far as I'm concerned he can get lynched I'm done with the kind of people who do crap like this. I hope he dies slowly and painfully.

I actually live in the Cleveland area, where this happened, it's been all over the news. My friend said there was a rally on Thursday, and she was thinking of going. She sent the police department a pretty heartfelt letter as well. I haven't heard anything since, but people were trying to get the SPCA involved. It's just so sickening...I'm not sure how it is in other places but the news always has some disgusting story about animal abuse here.

There was NO reason, NONE for him to shoot KITTENS in someone's yard, even if they were rabid, which it doesn't say, even then, the cats aren't just shot in front of a house, not when a call was made. What usually happens is a stray/wild/feral animal is trapped if possible, and taken AWAY if it MUST be euthanized, not right there, and especially not where people are watching. If the animals were such a threat, the officer would have warned the mom to take the kids in, to keep them in and for the love fo God don't let them near the window, so they wouldn't have had to see that happen. He is a sick sick man. Those poor kids. The baby won't remember, but the bigger ones will be haunted for a long time. This was about as poorly and hatefully handled as anything I've seen. You want to bet that that "humane" officer went looking for the poor mama to finish her off ? That mama will never be ale to be rehabilitated now, never, that man has destroyed a lot of good chances for cats who may have been good pets. Even if not, this was disgustingly done. KITTENS. TINY KITTENS do NOT require shooting. I'd also like ot know who and how the remains were disposed of. Did he clean up after himself, or since it may have been private property, did he leave it for the homeowners to deal with. That chief should be slapped in the face for defending such actions. SHAME on him.

for that man and anyone else excusing this.

Good lords that story was disgusting. There was no reason for the Police Officer to act the way he did. Excuse while I go bleach my brain of this stupidity.

Thought the procedure was to trap 'em and take 'em elsewhere if they must be killed. Not shoot 'em right then and there.

And in front of children, no less.

I'm sure those kids'll be very trusting of cops from now on.

Spoiler Alert! Bananas don't really wear pajamas!

I just came across some feral kittens the other day, six weeks old at the most. I picked one up. Of course it hissed it's baby kitty hiss at me.

This is ridiculous. That cop is a dick. Should be punished for scarring children for life. i'm pretty sure they could've found a foster home for them.

The only time I agree with euthanasia is if there really is no alternative, and of course a feral kitten will hiss. It's being picked up and cornered by an unknown person whose intentions are unknown. It's their way of saying back off or I'll hurt you because a kitten that small, versus a human twice its size means that the kitten is in all likelihood terrified.

That said, I don't understand why the officer didn't take the kittens away to be euthanized, a child shouldn't have to witness something like that in the first place., and with kittens that small the chances of them getting rehabilitated are probably a lot higher than if they were a full grown feral cat that hasn't been around humans for a longer time.

This was a move that was wholly unnecessary.

This is why I don't call for help regarding animals unless it's an emergency. You never know what can happen to the animals once they leave your property and you really can't trust people to treat strays (or even lost pets) humanely.

I still remember when this asshole swerved to run over my cat, Patches, in front of my house. I was seven and as silly as it probably sounds it's stayed with me my whole life; I still think of it if my cats try to get out and I still associate the sound of tires squealing to that.

It's not silly for a traumatic event like that to stick with you and seeing someone intentionally kill your pet as a child is very traumatic. Were you able to do anything to the driver of the car or did they just drive off?

It really was. Up until then it'd never occurred to me that anyone would do something like that and I'd never had a pet die before then. Nah, nothing was done about it. I was too little to think about getting his plates until he'd already gone around the corner. I like to think he's wrapped himself around a tree since then though.

I hope the same for this policeman. On top of the kids having to see these kittens killed they've got to be distrustful of cops now. Hell, I would be too if I lived in that area since their chief of police is supporting this.

Its stories like this that give cops a bad rep. Not only will this stay with the children forever but the children will never look at a police officer the same way. And how could the chief support this? To those interested, there is another petition on Change.org to get this man fired.

I've had someone do that to my cat as well, my cat also named Patches. My family actually had to put down our dog because he was in our front yard and as a women passed by he stood up, barked once, and sat down. Mind you he was also tied up at the time and in no way could have ever reached this women. The women decided to pick up a stick and began beating our dog, Copper. Never once did he bit her, just tried to run away from her. The court ruled in her favor because we live in a small town and she was a big shot. Sad to say we have those people in this world.
