Is anyone here excited about the new beginning of the Tomb Raider series? It's going to be much more realistic apparently. There's a ton of info on the Lara Croft wiki and on the wiki Raider pages. :D
So is anyone else looking forward to this game? :) Feel free to generally discuss any Tomb Raider game here also! What was your favourite and least favourite so far?
I just found this glorious image and I would give anything for a TR2 remake simply for the pretties, the Opera level and the Yetis. omg.

Underworld was amazing but I completed that in a day. lol. Same with Legend. Disappointingly short. Plus I beat all the time trials with relative ease. And being a scuba diver I was appalled at the lack of scuba gear on Lara and her tank lasted forever omg. And I had a weird pleasure in not giving her the 'dry suit' in the arctic level because I know how flipping cold water like that is.. bahaha. Anyways... I hope this one takes me longer than a couple of days to do.
I bought that online only Tomb Raider game which I haven't completed (Guardian of Light? lawd I can't even remember its name).. the camera is weird and the damn enemies never stop coming. But I like the flame thrower. Though it gets ridiculous in places so I haven't completed that yet. I blame the lack of camera control.
My husband is hilarious.. he never made it past the training level on Tomb Raider 4 and gave up on all of them. The. Training. Level. lol. I enjoyed that one but I think there was a glitch and I didn't get a weapon that needed a scope so I couldn't complete that abandoned arcade area so I had to cheat and get the crossbow (and I love the flaming crossbow arrows.. blow up all the things!) and doing the cheats was so difficult as you had to be exactly North or they didn't work.. idek man. But the game made going to Egypt and going to all the places sooo exciting.
Wow, that's beautiful! Is that from a real game? :o I'd love for 2 to be remade.
Underworld irritates me. I just finished Legend for the third time and then moved onto Underworld which I've never played before; I couldn't put my finger on exactly what annoyed me to begin with and then I realised - THE CAMERA. Good grief! When Lara pole vaults or jumps or swings on a rope, instead of the camera staying calm so you can watch Lara and accurately judge when she should jump/let go/ect, the camera moves with her. It doesn't make it more realistic, It makes it really dizzying and I can't play the game for more than 20 minutes without feeling nauseous (I'm susceptible to that with games anyway but Legend/Anniversary don't have that effect on me). Argh.
I LOVED the Guardian Of Light, way more than I thought I would lmfao. I found it really addictive once you get the hang of it. Obviously it's not comparative to the other TR games because it's a totally different style but I completed it and got all of the red skulls in each level because I adore it. :D
LOL tell your husband he is not the only one! Revelations and Chronicles stumped me so badly. :(
I think it's fan art.. I found it on a tumblr. But it would be so amazing to have a pretty Tomb Raider 2 :3 I'd play the opera level over and over.
I think I'm so attached to the left joystick that I just swing the camera around.. I tend to control both joysticks at the same time so the camera is never really a problem - I also am weird and need everything inverted. My mind doesn't compute with the "move stick left to move left".. lol.
Ugggh I wish I was as enthusiastic with the Guardian of Light.. I haven't bothered with all the skulls and points.. maybe after one play through but I think I just got sick of the enemies coming in huge batches.. or something.. I can't even remember now! I'd ask my husband to play with me but he wouldn't be much help :P
Wow, that some incredible fan art. :o I'd love to see the Floating Islands level all updated. Also the wreck of that ship, that level would look incredible.
Lol I'm the opposite! My brain gets confused when things are inverted. And that's fair enough, each to their own. ^_^ I just got addicted really quickly for some reason (and also got the game for free off of PSN as a + member a while back). I didn't really concentrate on the points, I concentrated on the objectives (some of which required points) but I quickly became obsessive and repeating levels to complete stuff lmao. I haven't finished it 100% though, there were a few that were just too tricky.
Nothing felt as good as torching all those spiders with that flamethrower.. muahahaha.
Ugggh Floating Islands would be soo amazing :o :o Actually all of it would be...
I am definitely excited!! I'm a TR fan since the first game was released and so far I've played them all. ^_^
I agree with a TR2 revamp as well, there were some amazing levels that I'd like to see in an updated version...the Floating Islands omg they gave me the chills I loved them!!
AH yes the flame thrower! So much fun. Spiders creep me out. :D
:D The floating islands freaked me out SO much on PS1 lmfao. I imagine it would be even worse on PS3, but I still think it would look beautiful. I understand that level was basically a void between our world (entered via the temple of Xian upon meeting the requirements) and some weird world that Bartoli was apparently trying to reach, but I still can't figure out what all that green stuff was. The level design, I suspect, would become much more clear if it was re-done, graphics-wise (crystal? green stone? alien rock?). :')
I'd hope for the floating islands the land wouldn't be so.. black. Haha I just remember the graphics in TR1 and TR2 would turn into black nothingness if the landscape was too vast! That kinda creeped me out.. especially if something was flying at me and I had no idea it was coming until some creepy noise freaked me out.
Oh yes that would be interesting to find out for sure, I was always asking myself why the green was so intense. What frightened (in a good way) me the most in that level were those knights and how they appeared, I bet in an updated version they would be epic! =D
I hadn't thought of that. I always assumed it was like that because it was a pathway through and there literally was...nothing...around it. :P It was creepy though.
Yeah, they were even more creepy. It all served to make the level more absorbing though.
I'm really looking forward to this game. I think I read that Lara won't auto aim any longer, which worries me. I am useless at aiming by myself.
The pictures released so far look so pretty.
Yeah you have to aim at things much like in Uncharted.. it took me a while to get used to that game but I still don't want this to happen for Tomb Raider :( I like my auto aim.. and then at least I could roll around and jump and do fancy shit :) Now.. no way. lol.
I doubt I'm going to get very far in the game then. I can either attempt to stand still and take a lot of damage while I try to aim or jump about and dodge and hope for lucky shots. I can't do both. I've not played Uncharted before so I'm not sure how it works.
Hopefully there won't be too many guys around shooting at you.. I saw footage with the deer and the player had to manually control that so I assume it's like that for everything she gets. Honestly it took me quite a while to get the hang of shooting in Uncharted.. the problem with that game is that suddenly you have like.. 20 people shooting at you from all angles so you end up dying if you don't stop and hide behind a wall or something.. and then there's buttons for that so I inevitably roll into something else and die because I've hit the wrong button. lol. I'm sad Tomb Raider is taking this route.. it doesn't need to be a priority that every game needs to have manual shooting imo... :/ But hey.. I wasn't a fan of the joystick when that was introduced and now I love it!
Yeah, you're right about the joystick too. I hated that and was always running off things but it seems so mach better now. There was one game where the up button used a medipack and everytime I wanted to move, I cured instead.
In relation to some of the original post's questions: My favourite game was TR2, I loved the combination of fighting and puzzle solving. I found the levels a nice length and well thought out. My least favourite was Anniversary, I couldn't do the adrenaline dodge and you needed to do it to get past the centaur (?) boss. I got stuck there and never completed it. I thought Legend and Underworld were too easy and completed them very quickly. I also don't like time trials, I like to take my time.
OMG I cured all the time too! What a stupid move that was! The amount of rage each time I used a medipack. And I constantly ran off of ledges all the time in TR6.. uggggh.
The adrenaline dodge was so tricky to get and yeah that centaur bit was such a bitch.. I think I learned to do it on that one as well! Now I can get that time trial done pretty easily (though my heart is always racing during the battle.. eek).
That bit worries me as well, I'm also bad at aiming. I think everyone probably is but it'll make it more challenging haha. I never found the adrenaline dodge too difficult but it sucked when there was more than one big enemy and she wouldn't aim at the nearest, darn it. And by the time she has its mown her down lol. And in narrow corridors, that sucks too.
Arrrrrghhh accidental use of medipacks drives me insane lol! And I really hate how they switched the guns/binoculars/PLS/medikit around on the directional buttons between Legend/Anniversary and Underworld. Luckily they didn't move the medikit, that's still 'up' or I'd be using them non-stop oops. I really hate how in Underworld they don't carry over to levels either ugh.
