Particularly for those of use who have over ten pets (though just as much for me with "only" eight) I think it would be convenient to be able to select the pet displayed in the "Battle Pet" widget separately from the active pet. One reason I say this is that I think it's pretty common to have just a single battle pet (or maybe two), and yet at the same time, you may want another pet active for various reasons; one might be that you wanted to have a different pet in the "Active Pet" widget so you could get to its treasure and description quickly while keeping an eye on your battle pet's training session at the same time.

So, I'd like a way to select a battle pet as well as an active pet. Other uses for the "battle pet" label could include putting the battle pet at the beginning of the BC dropdown, using it as a "default pet" along with the default weapons set we can define, taking the battle pet out of the normal "equip to" list and putting it at the top with a line break*, and maybe even putting it at the beginning of the training list. And I haven't made a lot of scrolls, but it would probably make sense to somehow make it easier to start making a scroll with the battle pet and do the same thing with the scroll equip list as the potions one.

Any of these features that got implemented would hopefully be optional, of course, since I can see some of them being a little annoying for the OCD among us who think alphabetical order is more convenient than having the battle pet first, and whoever else doesn't want them; I think we could spare a new pair of radio buttons in preferences to turn them off or on, since there aren't many things there. I also think there'd be space for a link to choose the battle pet right next to the active pet link (e.g. "Make Active Pet / Battle Pet"). So, any comments on this idea?

*This is what I mean for the potion/scroll lists:

Quote
Equip to Battle Pet

Equip to Fred
Equip to Jack
Equip to Tarou

I'd like to see this actually. Not sure if it's necessary to order the "equip to" list, since it's just a list of links and not dropdowns I have to pull up every time though.

Other reasons you might want to have your active pet who's not your battle pet:

 • if you want to turn a pet in to an Aeanoid, or Nostalgic
 • if you want to use the Zapper
 • if you want to highlight a finished pet, since your active pet shows up when people hover over your username

But aside from the "Active pet" widget and the link in your dashboard, your active pet also gets the stat boosts from Random Events or the Oracle Quest. So right now, because of that, I kinda have to set my battle pet as my active pet. If the battle pet is different from the active pet, I can direct those stat boosts to my battle pet instead.

So yeah, being able to distinct the two would be helpful

I know this is old, (Yay for necroing in S&I) but I just went to do this exact thing and I'm confused as to why it is not a thing? ... Why have the option for active and battle pet widgets if they're just going to be the same pet? I guess if you just so happen to be working on the profile of your battle pet it makes sense to want all the links, but the two same pictures would annoy me, and putting them back in/out of the spoiler tag = extra clicks = you may as well just go to the pets menu page anyway.

The reason I want this: I want my big battler active to get all the oracle stat rewards that come my way, but I want my lowest battle pet on my sidebar so I can see every time he needs trained. :/
