I am looking for suggestions for a good digital art laptop.

I have my main desktop but the heights of the chair, desk, etc makes drawing with my tablet for long periods of time difficult, which is hindering my ability to work on art more.

So I'd basically be looking to add a supplementary computer to hook my tablet to and install my art programs on. This way I'd be able to sit anywhere more comfortable and work on art that way as well.

Does anyone else use a drawing tablet with a laptop? What make/model do you have and how is it helpful? ( ._.) Thanks for any advice or help.

I've used my tablet with laptops basically exclusively for like, a decade. It doesn't really matter what kind of laptop you get, honestly. For me, I prefer ones with a bigger screen and high resolution because it gives me more space to draw. My laptop screen is 1920 x 1080 pixels. It's an HP computer that's meant for gaming (kind of) honestly, though, I wouldn't suggest any major windows brands b/c tbh they're all super "whatever." People suggest Macintosh for drawing a lot, b/c of screen res and the speed of the programs, ability handle bigger art files, etc. But I wouldn't want to pay for a mac for just a doodling computer, if I was you. HAHA I hear ASUS is nice. A lot of people at my art school use them.

Seriously, though, if you're not gonna put a lot of junk on your laptop, aside from screen resolution I don't think you need to worry about the specs of the computer. Pretty much every modern day computer will be able to run your art programs fine, ESPECIALLY if there isn't a lot of games and other programs clogging up your system. It's not gonna matter.

So yeah, just make sure the computer has enough RAM and disk space to run your preferred art program, make sure the screen size is adequate for the space you like to draw in. Other than that, gung-ho!

Thank you for the reply!

Screen resolution was my main concern, as well as RAM.

Do you by any chance know if Paint Tool Sai can be run on Windows 8? For example I already found one here that looks promising but I currently use Windows 7 on my desktop, and I mainly draw in Paint Tool Sai. :-/

Yeah, actually. I have windows 8/8.1 and SAI runs fine on my computer, though I don't actively use it. Also, from SYSTEMAX's website: " OS Windows 98 Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1

  • Will work on 64bit Windows" So that's a yes, it functions fine with Windows 8. If you have crack it might be different, but legal copies will work.

welp I think I actually have a cracked version ( ._.) I guess I could always uninstall Win8 and go back to Win7 on any laptop I did find if I become that desperate for Sai.

I have also been planning to get into other programs and I know for a fact one of them works great in Win8 so there's plenty of options. Thanks for all of your advice. :) Time to eBay stalk now, lolol.

I'm sure there's uh... more updated versions of crack too, you'd just have to hunt around for a new one b/c yours is probably from before it was win8 compatible.

Good luck!

As long as the resolution is decent and the laptop isn't a laggy mess you should be fine with pretty much anything, really. I have Paint SAI and it works fine on Windows 8 (I use 7 though, because I prefer it). Mine's the official version so I'm not sure how the cracked versions would work. If you're buying a new laptop and you want to make sure Paint SAI works the official version is pretty cheap anyway. I'm not 100% sure what it is in USD but in GBP it was only about £30 so it might be worth getting if you really want to use windows 8 and the cracked versions don't work.

some people might tell you to go with a Mac but I seriously wouldn't consider it unless you find a fortune or work/school requires it. They do have really nice screen resolution but SAI is unable to work on its operating system making high profile/price programs like Photoshop the only other reasonable option. tl;dr don't get a mac for casual art or even as an art computer unless it's required. the only pro is that the graphics look top notch on your screen but that doesn't mean they look that way on someone else's.

You pinged the wrong person.

Also, did you seriously make a tl;dr that has the exact same number of lines as the original statement? A tl;dr for a two-line statement, no less? I really hope no-one is that lazy.
