After over a week, I finally get a response to my fifthish attempt.

That's the art above. I draw this on Paint tool Sai, then reduce the size in Photoshop. For the item art, after I draw it and reduce it, I change the format in Gimp. Should I do these things with another program if it's a quality issue?
As for the shading, should I not add the "furryness" and just smoothly cell shade?
- I know your pain, I am trying to get a companion CW I am working on approved and am also having some issues. I would suggest maybe smoothing out the shading, getting rid of the furriness. And if possible, make the shading a tad more transparent. I love your companion though, it's quite cute!
Don't use GIMP, it really does not resize too well. Do it in Photoshop. Since it's a small item I would go with the smoother shading. I would also thin out the shading on the face, just slightly around the fur/mouth area. honestly not much at all would be needed.
- I'll give your suggestions a go.
- I don't use Gimp to resize, I just use it to change the image to .gif
Oh. XD I wouldn't do that, either. Photoshop can do it and it still saves better.
- I tried with Photoshop, and it ended up looking pixilated and weird. :(
Really ? That is so odd. :( Open the normal file before you resize/etc and start from there ? The only time I had trouble with photoshop doing that was when I forgot to merge the layers before resizing.
- How does this look?

The smoother shading looks really good. I think you could still have some fluff in the chest part, though. The left (our right) eye looks odd, too. Like it doesn't have color/a pupil at all.
- I think it looks good now, I agree with Sui though about the eye. It looks darker than the other. But a nice improvement.
- An update!

- That looks lovely! I really like how it looks now.
Are you having problems reducing the size and saving the overlay in SAI? I usually just use SAI to the end, and then for the item image, I'll use SAI for the drawing, save as a non-transparent png and then reduce and change the file type in Photoshop.
- When I reduce the size in Sai, it seems a little blurrier than when I reduce in Photoshop. It might be just me though. ._.; Plus, I don't think Sai saves it as a transparent png...at least i don't think. As I have told Sui, when I try changing my item art to a gif format, the image is pxilated and fuzzy which is why I use Gimp to change the format.
Really? I do alllll of my stuff that way. The companion on my HA was used in SAI. And it does save as a png transparent. When you save, it'll ask you to save it in 24 bit or 32 bit (or something along that line) choose the 32 bit to save, and that's your transparent layer.
I don't understand why it would cause it to be pixelated and fuzzy for you but not me. Weird. o.o
- It IS weird! And your CW looks good, and mine....is not the same...:( I don't remember Sai asking me that.
Hum. Maybe need an updated version? Although...I don't think they update too often. P:
- Maybe. I'll look into it.
When you save PNG from SAI, do you use "Save As" or "Export"? If you Export as PNG, after you give it a name, it should ask you which format you want 24 or 32 bit.
As for the updated version, when I zoom in, I still see a few stray spots, especially on the tail; I wonder if that's the "dithering" that the staff is seeing?
