Hi! I've probably had my tablet for a year or so now, but I'm not very good with it. I use Sai, and it's great, but I feel like I still don't know how to use my tablet, let alone Sai. My lineart is usually too thick, too scratchy, and coloring guides are really vague to me. I'm not very good at learning from a page, more so from watching and interaction. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction when it comes to lineart and coloring, or if they have a Livestream/Join.Me session coming up soon, if I could watch it, heheh. Just as a side note, I mostly draw people and that's what I'm most interested in improving on. Thanks for all of your help!

hi there! i'd be more than happy to set up a livestream for you at any time. i'm not an Expert Artist (you can see the kind of stuff i do if you visit my art blog or art shop in my sig), but i know what i'm doing with lineart/coloring. the Serious Illustrations are a little further back in my blog, jsyk. i can do some example drawings/small paintings during the livestream, each with different focuses, and give some tips/answer any questions you might have in the process.

i typically use photoshop and am more familiar with it, but i have sai as well, and i can use that if you'd find that more helpful (that's on a faster computer, too, so it may be best to go with that option anyway). just let me know if you're interested in me streaming for you, and, if so, when would work best for you/how long you'd want the livestream to last! i'm available literally whenever and i can draw forever, hahaha.

as a note: i totally know what you mean with the sort of unfamiliarity with your tablet; they take a while to get used to, and even longer to feel confident with. if you keep at it, though, the awkwardness and unsureness will pass for sure! hopefully that will be easier once you feel like you have a better grasp on strong lineart and strong colors.

Thanks for replying! ^^ I would love to watch you! I don't mind which program you use; to be honest, Photoshop looks like a better program, but it's much too complicated for me, heheh. If you're going to be online for a while, I wouldn't mind doing it today, but I'm actually in the middle of doing my chores, ha. So whatever you'd like to do! By the way, I love your style. >w>

thanks so much!! ;o; in that case, i can definitely use sai for the livestream. my sai skills are on the more basic side, so my apologies in advance if i ever stumble with the program. i am indeed going to be online for a while – at least a few hours, but i don't mind going to bed later than usual. how much longer do you think you'll be busy? just so i know when to start setting up the whole thing.

oh ok cool, and no problem! the channel is here. (if you are not subeta user Preussen and you are seeing this and are interested in watching the LS, feel free to join!) there may be some background noise for maybe 30-40 minutes, but if it gets too distracting let me know and i'll switch to typing (talking is just faster and easier for me).

- I have Photoshop and Sai. I use Sai more often for doodling around because it's on my main comp. I'm not much of a digital artist myself, but mostly I draw by hand and color is SAI.

For line art, turn your stabilizer up to 15 and look up some good brush settings for lining.

I highly recommend (for digital painting at least) that you NOT use line art, though. Lineart is a massive pain in the butt and often a digital painting looks better without!

Another thing you might want to do is look into what brush settings other people use and try them out? I've been doing that a lot recently and I've had tons of fun creating pictures while just playing around with brushes I got from other people.

I reblogged a lot of brush settings here.

I especially like this one for sketching and these ones for coloring and such. (The blending, painting, and hair ones are especially awesome.)

Not sure if you'll get this in time, but I'm actually livestreaming on my Hitbox channel at the moment (working on a full sleeve tattoo design for a client).

I don't use Sai--I use Photoshop 7 instead and have a Bamboo tablet. I'm happy to talk with anyone in my channel; it passes the time. :) Unfortunately I'm not that great of a teacher, as I actually taught myself to use Photoshop, and not even I know everything about it, hah.

Hey, if you learn more from doing, totally look up digital painting/speed paint videos on youtube, look for something with a thumbnail of a style you like. You should be able to learn a lot from that!

I know the feeling on the tablet issue @ I'm afraid I've nearly given up on the tablet because I've gotten so used to using (brace yourself!) my trackpad. It takes a while to get used to coloring digitally no matter what method though I reckon. I'm too shy to share a join me link at the moment, but I wanted to share the feels! And maybe... well not sure I can help but ...before I start babbling more let me ask this

Question: What are you aiming for?

I know everyone has their own style, but are you attempting a more lasso-a-section or more textured shading? Sketchy or more smooth lines?

Second Question: Have you worked with color much traditionally?

They/Them
